Would have perhaps been a different outcome with Verstappen at the wheel even with the fifth gear ratio issue..

I am also a racer (sports 2000 north american series) and own a 24 z06 and agree with everything you said 100%

The question is why would they not correct this at the beginning with the engineers?? There has to be logical reason or reasons which I can't explain from the perspective of this casual observer.

I would think there were other considerations other than worrying about top speed. I'm sure they know what they are doing.

Lots of talk that driving it in auto held the car back with too many shifts that weren't necessary at the Green Hell

99.99999% of Corvette owners will never drive the Ring.
And will beat 99.99999% of other guys street light to street light and at your local Track Days. And be a feature at most Coffee and Car meets.
So I thing GM got it right.

No, there was no crash . I think C8 z06 can go faster than 7:10. 7:10 was c7 z06's time I believe.
