Not Detecting FOB

Today our car would not detect the FOB. I had a big ring of keys in my pocket on top of it. I took the keys out and the car recognized the FOB right away. All that metal around the FOB must impair the radio signals which are not all that strong in the first place. This might just explain problems others have with not recognizing the FOB.
 
Keith, I'm thinking it might be time to replace the battery in the fob. A bunch of keys shouldn't have that much of an effect on the fob. Radio signals are pretty strong when you consider the distance away from the car that you can still open the doors etc. Just a thought.
 
Hi everyone. Make sure you never have 2 keyfob from 2 differents cars on your key ring, the second one can easily create problems and on some models, after a few attempts, it may fall in ''failsafe'' mode then it wont start and you will have to do the relearn procedure. :seeya:
 
I will have to check but normally, the battery in the fob is to supply power for the buttons but the car still should detect the fob even without the battery. On my Grand Caravan, one of my key fob was damage by the previous owner, there is no battery in it, I still can start the car but can not unlock the doors
 
My key fob battery was dead this year after sitting this winter but did not know it until I went to get in the car. The car did not detect the fob with the dead fob battery but as soon as new battery went in, all was well.

I Buy A Spare Pack And Leave In The Hidden Compartment ....

You Never Know How Long The New Batteries You Just Bought. Were Sitting On The Shelf ....

Had A Member From The Club With His 2009, Batteries Died in His Fob ....

Thank God For The Spare Pack ....lol.
 
I recently had the same problem, here is what I found. I had just purchased a dash-cam and attached it to the wind-shield, I tried to start the car and received the FOB message. I inserted the FOB into the glove compartment and was able to start the car. I was able to shut the engine of but got a message "no FOB - no Run" or something like that. I went onto the internet to google the message and came across a discussion where a Garmin GPS caused this problem. I removed my Dash Cam and everything is back to normal. It seems that some electronic devices interfere with the FOB transmitter. Next time you have this problem shut off any electronic devices, phones, Bluetooth devices, wireless back up cameras, dash-cams etc.
 
Curious to know what people paid for their FOB batteries? Does the FOB need to be reprogrammed after inserting a new battery?

I think mine is getting weak too. Was thinking of taking my FOBs down to London Drugs to get new ones put in. Am I on the right track for how this is done? I'd hate to do this at the dealership, as I think they'd probably clean me out for this..........

just use a thin flathead and pry it open and change it... watch for polarity

No reprogramming.

Had to do one in one of my Z06 fobs years ago.. think it was a 2032 battery.. $3-4 at wall-mart
