No Tail lights, no dash lights but 'Twilight' fixes(?)

Hey all - OK, no tail lights and no dash lights on my '99 C5. Internet search reveals this is a common failure of the combo switch - turn signal switch. GM does not make it any longer and can't find one anywhere. Funny thing is, when I activate the 'Twilight mode' all works fine (dash & tail). Suggestions/comments/help?

Hello if you go to Wrench Monkey and put in your info they show switches in stock. About $500. but at least they have one.

Had a similar problem on a Gran Prix only opposite to yours. Lights would come on in full sunlight. I had to cover with a Kleenex which would let some light through. Worked OK at night.
I would doubt the light sensor first.
