Well, very valid perspective Rruuff Day, but, we never travel with our 2 seater cars..... thats what the SUV is for... where are you putting the bikes on the vette?! LOL...
There are some amazing roads, small friendly towns, and 4000 km in my Stingray when we road trip... When I have choices and the Corvette is one of them, the SUVs stay in the garage. Nope. Don't even own bikes... Not conducive to living on a farm in the country.... lol...
And if we didn't take a suitcase for Brenda we'd likely have room for the two German Shepherds too..... errrrr maybe not...
Same, I will take the car whenever possible, have to drive the truck 7 or 8 months of the year so we need to take advantage when we can. Heck we have taken both on some trips. Need to haul some things but I want the Vette at my destination. Have also trailered my previous hot rods so wife and I can go in different directions when we arrive wherever we are going.
I'm super excited for the C8. Lots of great FE Corvettes out there should I want to upgrade someday. There is a sense of being a bit sad of the change from the traditional layout but like square tail lights, I'm sure it'll just take some time to be accepted. And, the fact that a ME version has been a part of the heritage of the Corvette with every generation that has come out, that makes me feel a little better about the change.
As for storage, it was have to be seen if the C8 can hold 192 cans of beer.
I think with the change, GM will also pull in a lot of wanting exotic buyers who settle for Porsche or BMW M series.
On Friday I was at a regular sports car meet up, and a guy I know came with his 2019 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, which he had just got a tune on, which took it to 780hp. He was intrigued and fearful of the C8. There's speculation that GM picked 7.18.19 as the reveal date due to it possibly coinciding with a rumored Nurburgring lap time, which would tie the 911 GT2 RS time, at a rumored quarter of the cost. He said if the rumors are true, he may just have to get one!! So I imagine all the guys who can't afford the US$295k might jump at the chance to compete with it at US$75.
So there may be a shift in the clientel that buy the C8, but I think GM will still have some great demand for it.
I know I want one!
Question is when to buy? Hopefully the frame twisting is only on the higher HP models which are a year or two down the road and time to resolve. So probably wait for the Z06 version which by then they should have the frame issues solved.
All very good perspectives on the long awaited ME C8. I tend to agree with this new platform may be a Break or Make for GM. Since the first introduction of the Corvette way back in 1953 Corvette has evolved so why not the ME ? I am sure the exotic appearance and redesign will appeal to many, but how much to the younger generation remains to be seen. I have been debating should I buy a 1990 C7 now which I like very much, or wait till after first year production run of C8 to make my decision? I am sure the demand will be high for the C8 as everyone wants to have the latest thing, but patience has taught be to wait to see the first time buyers opinions after owning a C8. To me it's not always the new latest thing that matters, it's all in the pleasure you have and the people you meet along the way. Cheers!
