Hi, just joined the site as it looks to be a great place for info on Corvettes. I haven't purchased one yet but I am going to be driving a few in the spring and hope to find a nice 07 or 08 C6 coupe with a 6spd. From what I have read there don't seem to be any major issues or problems with these cars but can anyone inform me of anything specific to check or point me toward a thread or site? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

welcome aboard !!! we have some very knowledgable c6 guys here and when it gets down to the crunch time you would be well advised to have a chat with manny dasilva. enjoy - doug :seeya:

Thanks for the advice. I plan to do that as I don't live too far from his shop. Looks like a popular place to visit for local owners.

You'll soon be an addict like the rest of us ! :)

Welcome and good luck with the hunt .

:agree:

There is a so called guy out there called Manny, he is the guru when it comes to vettes :D.

As for an 07/08 you cant go wrong with either both are great cars and engines. 07`s have the LS2 motor and 08 and up have the LS3. 400hp with the LS2 and 436hp with an LS3. One thing you can look for when ready to buy check for oil pan leaks/sweat, seems to be a common issue with LS2/LS3 motors but easily fixed with the repalcement of the oil pan gasket-- more of an oil pan sweat no oil dripping on the garage floor just the pan would have a stain then some guys would have the oil drips on the floor, then again I have heard of some guys with the just a sweat and no dripping and the have left it alone without any issues, they would just wipe the pan off when doing an oil change. Dealers would fix this free of charge if under warranty. See the master Manny if you ever have a leak/sweat down the road he will fix you right up :D. Now I am not saying all leak because they dont just the luck of the draw so I hope I am not scaring you to buy a vette .....You would think that GM would have fixed this issue during the C6 run..Not! go figure.....Manny might want to jump in here and give you more insight and more info.

Welcome to the CCF, you will enjoy your stay here. You are looking for some advise.....here it a bit:
As you live in Cambridge you are in a unique part of the world, where Corvette drivers have to keep a bit of reserve funds on hand. These funds are for Manny and all the stuff he will talk you into.... LOL. In reality, you are lucky to be so close. No one knows these cars like Dasilva Motorsports. I think if I was closer I would just set up a monthly payment to this shop and forget about maintenance all together...
The good thing, there is a lot of C6 corvettes coming on the market.....and there is no bad ones just some better than others. Take your time looking and let one that really needs you find ya.

Welcome to the best Corvette forum in the universe!
Enjoy your hunt for the perfect 'vette, it should be a lot of fun.
I'll just echo what everyone has said about Manny.

Good luck with the hunt.

Ditto! Welcome to the forum!!!! Glad you found us! Best of luck with your hunt. It must be exciting!

Welcome friend, Another Cambridge dweller here!! Hope your search is successful for the one you want. Thats what i did set out what you want with colour options coupe, convertible or Z then narrow your search to that one only.. As this way you wont settle on something you may not wanted.. Dont be afarid of the US either the process of bringing a car back isnt all that hard check this site out Registrar of Imported Vehicles for this info
Best of luck Hope to see you crusing around this summer!!

Thanks very much and I hope to see you too. I have looked at the US prices and they dont seem much different to ours (unless I am looking in the wrong place). The benefit of the US is selection of course. Thanks for the info and I will definitely keep it in mind. Are there lots of members who have imported cars from the US?

I imported mine from Las Vegas 5 years ago. The process is pretty easy and we have a thread somewhere that covers the gist of it. I can find it for you if you need it. My only advise from MY experience is to look at the VIN on the car and compare it to the VIN on the Title. Mine had a '4' on the car which was an 'A' on the Title. This caused a great headache and an 8 weeks delay until I could get a corrected Title(long story). Not only that but when I came to license the car here, the girl behind the counter wrote the VIN wrong putting a 'R' instead of a '4' which caused a lot more headaches. It seems like NO one could write down the VIN correctly. It's funny now.

Thanks very much for the help. I will look for the thread. Did you go and get the car yourself or have it inspected and shipped here with out seeing it? I have a friend who imported a car sight unseen and it was a nice example but I think I might be a bit too worried for that.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I also imported my car from Ohio, a dealership that is widely known and respected. I bought mine sight unseen, well except for the hundreds of pics that i requested from every angle, even the undercarriage.
Sent them the bank transfer, and they fed-exed the tiltle to me so I could sign, I sent it back overnight delivery. I sent a copy of the title, and a copy of the registration to the border, flew in to Dayton, the dealership picked me up at the airport, and I was on my way from Bud's of St Mary's about 3 hours later.
No issues at the border crossings... It's easy if all the paperwork is in order
:D
