Hi there all, I just recently picked up my first Corvette, a black C5 FRC.
The car came from North Carolina, a buddy of mine and I drove down in my M6 converted G8 GT, picked up the vette and drove back via the Tail of the Dragon, which was a blast, well worth the extra day and a great way to start to get to know the new car. The vette is pretty well modified, it's got a Texas Speed cam, ported heads with beefed up springs etc, long tubes and a full exhaust with Borla tips, z06 wheels, a monster stg 2 clutch, tick master cylinder and c6 shifter as well as stiffer motor mounts and a few tweaks in the cabin like a double din head unit and led lights. She's pretty rowdy, you get plenty of LS sewing machine coming through in the cabin but so far it's been a hoot to drive (though the stock seats weren't exactly my best friends after 12+ hours in them on the drive back from NC).
I've been doing HPDE style track days and school weekends for the last few years now in the G8 and started getting my feet wet in time attack events last year and that is one of the main goals I have for this year with the vette. Would love to hear from track guys about tips and suggestions for tracking these things. I'm shopping for tires at the moment, whats on there are pretty past it, so if anyone has input on the score I'm all ears. The z06 OEM sizes seem to be rarer than unicorns so my current thinking is going up a size at each end to 275/40/17 front and 305/35/18 rear and looking at DOT r comps or track focused summers. Thinking r888r at the moment. Further towards the track side of things, whilst down picking up the car I also scooped up some low mile used LG gt2 coilovers which are soon to go on. Would also love to hear people's advice on seats. Does anyone use a CG Lock on the vettes? I have one on the G8 for track days but am a bit unsure how it'd work out on the C5's seatbelts. Longer term I'd like to look at doing seats and a harness for track work but that's probably down the road a bit and I already have the CG Lock...
Great to meet you all! Hopefully will start to see some of you out and about if/when the weather starts to fine up, particularly if you happen to be in the Durham region
