Hey guys,

I just made the jump from Civic Nation to Corvette World! :D

I purchased my 1997 Vette about 2 weekends ago and I'm still getting used to the power and RWD. It's pretty much bone stock except for a Z06 exhaust, Vararam intake, MGW short shifter and I just installed a pair of fangs.

I'm getting the sound system overhauled next week and then I'll see where I go from there.

Cheers!

Very nice , enjoy your new found power .

Welcome to the forum!...really, no one has made any "no replacement for displacement" or other comments? We are too polite!

Very glad to have you here! Post up your impressions of moving from the Civic to the Corvette. Likes/dislikes. Was your Civic modified? What made you move to Corvettes?

Welcome!!!! Your car looks awesome! Make yourself at home here and feel free to post up some pics and tell us about your old ride! We are Corvette enthusiasts here but we do enjoy seeing other cars people are passionate about as we are car people too.

Sweet looking ride Pyro - welcome to the forum. Your Vette will be like nothing you've ever experienced. Great resource and great people found here. FYI - There's a code amongst Vette owners ... always give a wave to a fellow Vette owner. I'll keep my eyes open for you on the streets of T.O.! :D

Thanks for all the warm welcome guys!

You are definitely right about no replacement for displacement! But the wallet feels a bit lighter because of the fuel economy in the city haha. There's not much to describe about the move from Civics to Vettes as it's pretty clear cut. My civic had a bit of grunt as it was modified with an Integra Type R engine and the standard bolt ons plus some tuning so it was easily putting out over 200hp and screaming all the way to redline at 8900rpm. I also had the suspension done, LCA's, srtut and srpings and lip kit to go around the car. It's a quick little car that can catch people off guard, but there really is no comparison to a Vette.

I'll try to keep the story of how I made the jump short. I was looking to get a new car as I started to feel I had outgrown the Civic; The Lotus Exige and Ferrari F355 are 2 of my favourite cars (as well as the Ferrari 458, but that's just me dreaming haha) but being realistic I wouldn't be able to afford one of those any time soon so I started doing some more digging, my critera were 2 doors, RWD, and rarity (I wanted a car that stood out, one you didn't see everyday). I also didn't want any of the newer cars (ie Hyundai Genesis, Scion/Subaru FR-S) since I didn't find their looks too appealing and I also preferred a car with a large enough aftermarket scene rather than one in it's infancy. Believe you me, I considered almost every single car but there was always something I didn't like and most of the cars were too common for me to even consider. I ended up looking for Toyota Supras actually but all I could find were overpriced heavily modified cars or RHD ones and that just doesn't work well in LHD country. So eventually I realized Supras were too rare and I was never going to find one, I took some time off, revisited my dilemma and came back with the Corvette. Initially I was looking at C5Z06's but it was tough finding one I liked that was close to me. With work and not being able to take too many days off that posed a problem. I eventually "settled" on the C5 realizing that the Z06 may be a bit too ambitious and that I probably wouldn't miss the extra 60hp that I never had to begin with lol. I preferred the coupes over the rag tops and found a bunch near me on Autotrader. Messaged the owners and about 2 weeks later, I was the proud owner of my C5 with zero regrets!

It's still sinking in that I'm a Vette owner lol, everyday I open up my garage and can't believe it's just sitting there! I will definitely keep the code in mind from now on!

Awesome. One question, what in an LCA?

Glad you were able to find a car to make you happy! I know mine still puts a smile on my face every time! One warning, as I am sure you know from owning a modded Civic, once you start modding these cars, you don't want to stop!

I was wondering if you were looking for a Supra or NSX. Wicked cars for sure but agree about their price. I could only dream of an F355. That would be an experience!

LCA stands for lower control arm, lol sorry

Yeah definitely a bad idea modding the car, but it's gonna happen sooner or later, I can't ignore those siren calls from the Corvette forever. The best parts of my day right now is in the morning knowing that I get to drive it to work and at the end of the day when I get to drive it home. I'm always looking for an excuse to make a detour to run an errand or something just to get more seat time in it.
