ahhh, I see your situation now . I know the rack / pinion will work as there was one in salvage here a couple of years ago the guy just did it then wrecked the car and the car was sold complete to high bidder. Sounds like you don't have much choice but to go that route. I'd feel more comfortable with trying to center that motor too , that's more weight than the frame was designed for and you need it to go straight when you punch it.
