Need help in Newfoundland

Wow that c4 looks absolutely amazing! unfortunately a little more than I was looking to pay... who knows what I will be in to by the end of it haha. It could be that my wishes are getting away from my wallet, but I've seen some on kijiji 1992 - ish for 10-14,000. Wouldn't wanna go older than that in the c4 'cause the horsepower just seems so low. Although with a few mods (new headers, intake, camshaft, exhaust, chip) I'm sure I can get it easily up over stock anyway. Any tips?

And hey I do like a big rear end. I'm a personal trainer after all, if she don't squat.... haha

The 92-96 C4's do have a few more pony's. But not so much that I would rule out the early c4's. The L98 is a great motor, and although not a big power house, I can still scare myself with mine. I guess it really depends on what you are planning on doing with the car. For myself at least, I prefer the body style of the early c4's.
For your budget of $10 - 14 K; you should have no problem finding a good quality car... in fact there is a ton of c4's on the market for a lot less. In this price range you may find a very nice LT4. car or maybe even a ZR1

performance-wise, my 76 will be no slouch when i am finished with it. in the price range that you are looking at, there are many nice c3/c4 cars around. i paid 6800 for mine.

You and I think alike. When we were looking for a car last year, it had to be stick shift. I never tire of rowing through the gears. It's at least half the fun of driving these cars.

Food for thought, pre 89 were 4+3 manual, then they went to 6 speed. I would never have a slushbox too.

That is correct, the 85 -88 was the 4+3 transmission. Although there is a lot of them around, they are often problematic. That is why so many of these area cars were sold with the auto. The only thing about my car I don't like. I also would like the stick.
In the add pictured....this car is sated as a 86...but it has the 88/89 wheels on it.( and the wheels are on the wrong side too) Also it shows the third brake light, did this start in 86? I thought it wasn't until 87? .... When I see things like this I just wonder. Guess I am just too suspicious.

I believe the 4+3 was developed by Doug Nash. I think it is basically a Borg-Warner Super T10 with a planetary gear box added to the tail end. Kent has one of these transmissions in his car. I drove it and it shifted fine as far as normal driving goes. I've never heard anything bad about the ZF six speed.

Good catch on the wheels Brian.....but the third brakelight was mandatory in 86. Doug Nash did develop the tranny, it is a four speed with automatic overdrive in the final three gears, basically a second gearbox, similar to what is found in big trucks. They implemented this for fuel economy ratings, like the skip-shift in later trannys. Mine works fine, startles me sometimes when I tramp on it and it auto-downshifts.

Whoo, a fellow Newfoundlander! I just picked up an '01 vert this week from my old man. Great shape, only 80k on it, like brand new, and the price was great.

I'm on the southwest coast, I'm assuming you're on the Avalon?

Yessir, I'm enjoying it thoroughly. Has an aftermarket deck & 4 channel amp, CAI, exhaust plate, projectors in front, LED's for taillights. Got a sunburn & pulled over the first sunny day i had it out. Laid some good rubber at a local high school, someone there without a sense of humor reported me, just a warning however.

Still pretty early in the season here for top-down driving, or, driving it at all, really. Wet/rainy/etc... but, my thirst for performance is powerful. :D
