Is The C8 MSRP About To Increase?

With approximately 110,000 MY24 GMC Sierra & Silverado’s sold in Canada against 3344 C8’s and 2703 Corvette’s this year, GM Canada will have an easy tariff decision if the situation doesn’t change fast.

We are their biggest customer in the world. If we stop buying their cars, the big 3 will feel the pain and those auto workers from the south as well.
Name another country outside of the US that buy more American made vehicles than Canada.
They shouldn't pop the champagne so soon with all those jobs they think they will get.

What the Canadian Government has told GM is that the number of tariff free vehicles being allowed into Canada has been cut 24% as a direct result of job losses due to plant closures that have impacted thousands of people. The message is reestablish automotive manufacturing jobs to Canada or see what happens next! GM's profits are forecast at 15 Billion this year and Mary Berra will be paying a whole lot more of those profits to the gov't if they keep closing our factories. Now GM has to decide to return our jobs, pick up the cost of the additional tariffs themselves or raise prices and pass the additional tariff costs on to us.

Can they not build on this side of the border for Canadians. Get majority of the parts locally, Mexico and else where? Tesla has their US, China and Europe plant making the same model for that particular market? May cost a little more but maybe less than the tariff? Time for the CEOs to think outside the box.

Probably door number 3 as usual. Hate to be cynical but that seems to be what happens a bit too often. Have to keep the shareholders smiling.

And raising prices will only hurt GM as they try to remain competitive with Ford, Toyota, Honda and KIA. Unless there is a specific use case such as a heavy duty truck that cannot be replaced by the others GM will lose considerable market share in their largest non domestic market.

Count me in
Some good news out of the meeting today for GM buyers. The dealer network today was advised that the 25% tariff on vehicles will not affect them this year as they are not going to hit the quota on tariff free vehicles given to them by the government even with the immediate drop of 24% to that number for this year. If ordering a 2026 Corvette, get it in the country before the end of the year.
There was discussion of how to satisfy the government by returning the Equinox and Terrain to the Ingersoll plant, in order to get the 24% reduction removed but they now have to figure out how the US tariff will impact them sending some of those vehicles to the US from Canada and the rest from Mexico where production was relocated to. Oshawa is currently building the Silverado 1500 & 2500 for mostly Canada.
There was a discussion on the Buick Envision currently made in China and putting a big program on them like 0% for 84 months, so the Buick SUV
sales could jump and not be impacted with a tariff. There was also a discussion about the Oshawa made trucks and putting a big program on them like 0% financing on current model year. Finally Cadillac, there was discussion on the soon to disappear cars like the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 and stocking up on them before the tariff as they come from Lansing, Michigan and are also built at a Shanghai, China plant. Perhaps they hang onto them longer and bring them from China instead to avoid the tariff? The Escalade out of Arlington, Texas was also discussed. In 2027 they are moving production from Arlington to the Orion plant north of Detroit where the electric Chevrolet Bolt was built until recently moved to the Mailbu plant in Kansas City.
It would be nice if we could get some Escalade production here as well but that's not going to happen. Overall, GM knows they have to negotiate
a settlement with the government to remove the tariff free reduction by returning jobs to Canada but for now don't panic with the announcement last week.
