Ipod interface for 2008 with DVD Nav

Good Day,

Can anyone recommend, based on experience, an Ipod interface for the 2008 factory DVD Nav system? I am looking for hardware that permits use of the steering wheel audio controls with the Ipod and also Ipod interface hardware functionality which is unaffected by removal and reinstallation of the car battery. i.e. battery removal for seasonal car storage.
