Internet and computer security

I don't watch or do much of anything on my phone beyond taking a few pictures, text and phone calls. That's what I have a 15 inch laptop for.
OK, so use your laptop. That's what I mostly use it for, but it's also good when it rains or snows a lot when the sat goes out.

With the amount of movies and series I have on my laptop and a Western Digital solid state drive, I will be old and gray before I run out of things to watch....Oh. Wait.... I'm already old and gray.... lol.... Strangely enough, the rain doesn't affect my sat at all and the only time it gives me grief in the snow is when it's wet snow (which is seldom here), and it builds up on the dish. All I do is go out with a broom and brush it off....Other than that, I've never had a problem with it.... touch wood....

You can only watch Princess Bride or Spaceballs so many times ... Oh wait, that's not true. lol

Linux is an alternative Operating system to Windows. Trying to get it configured for gaming , especially installing graphics drivers is a notorious pain in the a$$ . You would have to be there I suppose......
thx. I knew what Linux was but wasn't aware it was a pain.

Mine are already off. Not sure when or if I did it.
Ya , mine too . During setup , but large updates sometimes turn them back on . Probably not a big deal but it all adds up over time with all the other tracking and fingerprinting going on .

There is still a way to install or reinstall Win 11 without a Microspy Account. If you have one it doesn't matter if you aren't signed in as they still transmit the exact same data to their servers. Have you ever installed any Linux distributions ? I haven't in quite some time but apparently it's come a long way . Not nearly as much need of the command line for one thing . May have another look now that winter is coming. There is a fair bit of info in this thread on HardOCP . Great site if you're not familiar. Been around for over 20 years. A lot of very knowledgeable members on there , enthusiasts and IT professionals etc . Really good search function. I've been following it for years . Ask a question on any Computer related topic and they are quick and happy to help. Overall an excellent site .

I installed Unix a hundred times and many different flavours from Solaris to Trustix etc. What I prefer about it is the command line is so powerful. Now I couldn't be bothered with most of it. I had thought of installing Linux when I retired but it was too much like work. LOL! Now I get my programming kicks with Powershell on Windows when I need to.
