Massive flooding in Ontario's cottage country. Water levels are approaching those of the 2013 flood. It just continues to rise. And now it is snowing. Decision to sandbank the walkout basement early this morning. Think there is no alternative now. These pictures are about 12 hours apart. Anybody got the plans to the ark?

I know this is minor compared to what so many people have endured. This problem we have is not knowing how much water is being held above us and when they will release that flow. All the water from the lakes above us flows into the Gull River and through a little town called Minden, those folks are very worried at this point. There just is not enough capacity in the river to hold the flow.

Thank you guys for your support it is appreciated. It has been a day for "soakers".

I was going to start the house a month ago but haven't even been able to drive a stake in yet.

Bill

... so if the location of where you are staking is currently under water, you would be one of a very few who might find a "blessing" in this event ...
Assuming that this is not the case, it is somewhat good to know how far Mother Nature can take things and hopefully never further - plant a tree/bush on the high water line to mark the event. Wishing everything to go well for you with your build !

Well the water rose about one inch overnight, the amazing thing is how much of an impact that can have. I staked the level this morning at 10:30 and it has remained stable all day. It is supposed to get down around zero tonight, we have had snow on and off all day but no rain.

Minden, Ontario is reeling with an emergency situation as is the Ottawa and Gatineau regions but both of those areas are reporting things were stable today. My thoughts are with those folks, it is tough to deal with an opponent that has a mind of its own.

Hopefully by the end of the week the water will start to recede.

Thanks again guys your thoughts are appreciated.

Yes Graham but Rogaine does help with receding hairline. Oh wait you are talking about the lake.

It has gone down about 2" in the last 36 hours and it appears that the worst is over for the time being, rain is forecast for the entire weekend. The lakes above us flow through two different lake systems but all the water flows through Minden, Ontario. Apparently they Trent Severn Waterway Authority pulled some logs from the damn on a massive lake above us that flows another way. Minden was hard hit by that decision and their water has risen now for a number of consecutive days.

My thoughts are with them and other areas that are struggling with flooding. Areas of Quebec, including Montreal have been hard it as well as eastern Ontario. Amazing how people come together at times like these. The sandbagging effort in Minden has been incredible. Good people everywhere.

Thanks Graham
