Hi Guys

Have a few questions regarding the stamped numbers on my engine and tranny.

1st up 19s780080

Ok, i think this is my vin as its 795780080. definately my last 6 is vin but what about the first three... is the s and 5 the same with stamps and not sure about the first 7. I was told they only stamp last 6 digits of vin. This iis on engine and on muncie tranny.

next is P9S25A This is on both engine and tranny also. I have no idea what any digits mean.

thanks in advance for help.

Don't really want to work yet so here is what I found. Assuming by your name a 69 Corvette.

Part 1: 19s780080

1-Cheverolet
9- 1969 (or possibly 1979, :D)
s- St. Louis Assy Plant
780080 - Vin Sequence #

Part 2: VIN 795780080
Not enough digits - should be 13 not 9 and also doesn't fall into the range of sequence #'s used. I would say you are missing 4 digits in front being 1Z37 and the 5 is an S.

Your vin is probably 1Z379S780080

However build sequence did not go that high so one of the sequence #'s must be different, say an 8 being a 3 or something.

here is what they should mean:

1969 Corvette VIN

VIN Range - 194679S700001 to 194679S738762

Character Position Code Significance
1 1 Chevrolet Motor Division
2 9 Corvette Model
3 4 V-8 Engine
4-5 67 Convertible
4-5 37 Coupe
6 9 Last Digit of Model year
7 S St Louis Assembly Plant
8-13 6 Digit Build Sequence Number

Part 3: P9S25A

I don;t recognize this series of nembers at all. Usually there would be a time code stampped into the block with the casting # with the format:

V0101HW -which would be

V- Flint, Michigan Assy Plant
01- January
01- 1st of the month
HW - 350ci, 300 hp, Manual Transmission

Hope this helps at least a bit.
