For the various "Total Plus" GM manufacturer extended warranty options I was given and the pricing for each, see below. This was for the maximum available
7-years, only, so prices will be lower for lesser periods of time. I chose the 100,000 km $100 deductible option priced at $4,816 + gst. From that, I was given a $1,900 reduction with my dealer explaining that GM allotted $1,900/car as "incentive funds" for the dealer to use as it saw fit, to apply to any deal. Initially I was offered $1,500 off but I said I'd shop the extended warranty around near the end of the regular warranty period, unless I was given the full $1,900 reduction. So my cost worked out to $2,916 + gst or about 60% of the full amount. You may do better in several years once more is known about the C8's reliability however there's a chance the costs could increase by then. Who knows? Again and as everyone says, whether you spring for an extended warranty is up to you and how risk-adverse you are. My worry was the initial model year and all the electronics in particular.
Also attached is the only literature I was given for the extended warranty. I'm hoping to get the actual wording in the mail? Anyways, there's no mention (for example) of headlights being covered under "electrical" so Rruuff Day is likely correct. It's probably considered a part subject to "normal wear and tear". Hopefully some of you will find this info helpful.
