Anybody have any experience in selling a late model Corvette to an American buyer? What is involved? I think you need a letter of manufacturing compliance but it does not look like GM gives them out, although I could be reading it wrong. They seem to want to send you to the NHTSA site that is just loaded with double speak. Oh my.

If it's anything like buying one out of the US. The person should come up here, give you the money and drive away with the car. I believe it's up to them to get all the proper documentation. When I bought my car in Vegas, I had to go the DMV to get the new Title, Drive away permits, Recall letter, etc. The owner just signed the Title and took my cheque.

That is correct , it is the buyers responsibility to look after all the import documentation , you are not exporting the car , you need only collect a check .

It is the same as as Canadian buying a Corvette in the US .

Manny, I agree that it is the buyers responsibility for the customs/compliance issues once the deal is done. Just trying to have some knowledge of any pitfalls that may scuttle a possible sale. The letter of compliance from GM seems to be an issue. GM, according to their site does not give letters out if you are selling into the US market, rather they refer you to NHTSA and then a "Registered Importer". All a bit confusing government double speak.

One automobile transportation company I got a quote from said all they need is the the bill of sale, signed ownership and this letter of compliance. I have asked them for clarification and will post again when I get some more information.

Thanks all for the input. Appreciated.

OUch... must have had a bad experience with one yeah? But let's not paint all of them with your brush:(

nope just trying to be funny, (ha-ha not strange)

when I called some of them they said "that is your problem not mine" so just a heads up so that someone selling may be ready with some answers to make the sale a little smoother

helpful yet humourous
