Has anyone tried to paint their own engine cover

I cant attest to the amount of heat that may be generated by the C8 engine, but, I can say that I have painted the engine cover on my 02 Tbird brob 12 years ago. I provided Lordco (automotive parts supplier) the paint code that I needed, and they mixed and put it in a spray can for me. It is essential that the surface is spotless and free from any grease/oil. I first sprayed it with automotive self etching primer followed by 2 coats of the paint and its only now starting to show a bit of wear. It covers a small block V8 in a pretty tight engine compartment so it definitely gets warm in there.....
