Door Damage

So I was going to the dentist , then to the dealer yesterday.

While at the dentist I parked way on the other side of the parking lot. Of course there were spaces galore all around but someone had to park right beside my car.

As I was coming out to go to the dealer ( only reason I would have driven it to the dentist ) a woman came out of the dentist's office. She was upset and said that she had dinged my door. The wind had caught

Looking at it, it's gone through the paint to below the primer.

So while at the dealer the body shop manager looked at it and said they would have to disassemble the door to properly paint the door and estimated it would cost about $700.

Seems a little steep, but I want it done right.

Any input or suggestions?

Thanks

had a similar paint chip, got the matching touch up paint from the dealer & touched it up. Looks pretty good now.

Probably not that much out of line, if you consider labor to R & R the door, prep and paint then they have to clear coat the entire door. Today's new water borne paint products are a lot more money. You can always go and get 2 or 3 more estimates.

It does not take much damage these days for a big body shop bill.

I am amazed that she told you what happened. I fear that most people would just take off.

Best of luck getting it fixed properly.

This has also happened to me. Parked all the way at the end of the lot at Cad Tire and someone had to park next to me despite numerous spots all around... do people do this on purpose?

Re: the quote. Seems reasonable. I'm assuming her insurance will cover.

Not always, but if I notice it's windy, I try to park facing into the wind so if someone parks beside me, the wind won't grab their door as I've had this happen to me.
Glad she let you know what happened. Seems there are a few people out there with integrity.

Yes, she said the wind caught the door on her and she had not idea why she did. I feel bad for her but with only 6000k on the car, and no other blemishes. Being that she was honest, and I know she's just a filing clerk at my dentist I was thinking of somehow splitting it with her.

I want it done absolutely right and I'm concerned with matching the Night Race Blue with all it's subtle colour characteristics. And for the time it takes to run around for quotes, if I'm going to save just 100, then it's not worth it.

I wouldn't mess around, I'd have the dealership take care of it for sure to make sure it's done right.

As for the $700, that would cost $1500 in fort Mac so it seems perfectly reasonable to me. I'd try and get her to go through insurance, but if not, I might take it easier on her and make her pay $500 and I'd cover the $200. She was nice and told you about it and seemed genuinely sorry. If she was a bitch or rude or tried to hide it I wouldn't be quite as nice.

If dealer is doing the work themselves great if not they will squeeze some shop
for max profit and s**t job. That being the case I would get a quote from a reputable body shop in your area if not get it done at the dealer.

I feel for you man that just sucks

Price seems right for a great job.

Was exactly what I was thinking.

They have their own shop and met with the body shop manager.
