I'm going to pop this out of my thread to get a bit more exposure.
Some already know I'm reworking the console/dash to hold a 2 din navigation radio in my 88:
The Plastic work is coming to completion (still have a bit more smoothing to do) and color choice is now the order of the day.
I've already got a "polished metallic" on it:
And while it looks pretty good, I'm beginning to think it might be just a little too "bright". The outside edges of the panels are going to be sprayed black to integrate it more into the Vette interior look. The current all silver look of the panels was simply how I had to go to get proper paint coverage.
The "breadbox" is is also coming off and a flat panel will go on, painted the same color as the gauge and center panels. So there will be even more of the chosen color in the interior than there is in the pics above. That's why I'm thinking the current silver might be just a little bit "too much".
I know this is a subjective question and will vary from person to person, but I'd like a few opinions on the color choice.
I'm pretty sure I want to use a silver or gray/charcoal look. I'm going for a subtle, yet custom, look. the silvers and gray's seem to be the best choice for my all black interior. There's contrast, but still in the color palate (or at least it's complimentary to the black).
Opinions?
I'm a little tossed up on painting the openings as well. The areas around the control components inside the "channel" in the panels. I was thinking I'd mask off and paint them black, but I'm not sure how the gauges would look in a big "well" of black around them and the bar between the radio and the heater controls will probably blend in so much I'd loose the separation look between the two components.
Opinions on edging it out in black on the silver colors?
Thanks.
