He's using the rear view mirror from his C1... ;)
It's not a rearview mirror, it's a close up mirror so he can see how scared he is or if he got the spinach out from between his teeth.

Very cool indeed! Can anyone explain what the “ mist “ around the tail section is? Water vapour is the only thing I can think of. Other than Adobe , lol .

What an image! Scary thing to see in your rear view mirror.
I could never be the guy standing there. Even if I was chained there! lol
Or is he praying the tether will hold?

Right on. And after the speed of sound is exceeded, the vapor cloud dissipates.

Interesting story and one I have told here quite a while ago. My buddy and I were fishing on Winifred Lake in Northeastern Alberta years back. Winifred lies right on the edge of the CFB Cold Lake air weapons training area. We were there during Maple Flag which is a training exercise for Canadian and other allied nations around the world.
Anyway. It was a gorgeous sunny calm day and we were in the middles of the lake relaxing after a busy fishing morning. I was laid back in the bow sort of dozing when I saw 2 F18's coming directly towards us extremely fast and just over the tree tops. By the time I told Larry to look they they passed directly over head of us not far off the water. Suddenly there were 2 earthshattering BOOMS which just about scared us right out of the boat and put an end to the calm water for a minute or so. We were both wowed and neither of us had ever witnessed the sound barrier being broken before and certainly not within spitting distance. When we got back to the lodge and told Tony, the owner, what we had witnessed, he said although they were not suppose to break the sound barrier outside of the weapon range boundaries, the large lake is a favorite flyover spot for pilots and they break the rules fairly often, es[ecially during Maple Flag week. He then related that the lodge, which has a gigantic plate glass window looking out on to Grist Lake, which is in the same vicinity has suffered that window being shattered multiple times when their flyovers exceed the range boundary and go over the lodge. He said it's an inconvenience but all he does is call the base and they pay for the window replacement every time. No questions asked.

Wow! Cool story @Rruuff Day.

Indy Cars go fast enough to produce contrails off their rear wings. Some excellent pics @LE BARON thanks for sharing.
