Heres an opinion on the babe that got her Vette jacked.......

Sure but out of the estimated 1 BILLION I-phones currently in use a sufficient number of them probably do.

Ya, I have zero interest in the Iphone so I have zero knowledge on it as well. lol
Still it seems to be hit and miss. Maybe more hit than miss, but still not a infallible solution.

Ya, so it needs other peoples Iphones to have findMy enabled.
So it appears that find my is on by default so that helps. You can also track a phone that has been turned off or one with a dead battery because there is battery life for this reason even if the phone says 0 battery. Pretty cool. Works the same with Air Tags . Cheap way to track things without paying a monthly subscription fee. Car included.

I was a bit hesitant to post this on an open forum, but I figured what the h3ll. An automotive electrical engineer buddy had his wife's Acura SUV stolen (it's probably driving around Sudan now) and when they got the replacement, he told me he's pulling the fuse for the ignition since that will effectively prohibit engine starting. He only does it when the vehicle is parked for some extended periods, such as overnight, or when leaving it in the parking lot at the airport.

Bit of a PITA, but possibly worth the effort in at least some cases. And, it seems that all of these engine start/ignition relays vary quite a bit from vehicle to vehicle, so it's unlikely that your average low-life thief would have the desired replacement handy.

See this link: What Fuse To Pull To Disable A Car? (Prevent Theft!)

A couple of folks I know have tried this, and reported that the action does prevent engine start - YMMV but it won't cost anything to confirm if you wish.

Good idea, thanks

A little further investigation on the above. It seems that a "faulty" brake light switch may also prevent a vehicle engine from starting (ya know that most new cars over the past few years require stepping on the brake pedal before you push the big button). Rather than putzing around with the brake switch, I suspect if you just pulled out the brake light fuse you'd accomplish the same thing. See this link re: faulty brake switch prevents engine start

Sort of a modern day version of pulling the rotor out from under the distributor cap on the old point/condensor ignition systems, it seems.

Sure thats a great idea .....

Just wonder if these 2 have what it takes to search out the fuse box ... let alone fuse positions ....:p:p

Where Did The 'Dumb Blonde' Stereotype Come From?

Car theft and carjackings are getting insane, especially in the GTA. A fellow corvette owner sent me a security video of 3 guys attempting to steal his brand new truck, and him, his wife and his neighbour confronting the thieves who drove away in a stolen Mercedes. Just watching his security footage was traumatic. Because his brand new truck doesn’t fit in his garage, he will have to sell it after repairing the damage that was done as nothing is safe in the driveways of the GTA.

I felt compelled to get a steering wheel lock, faraday box/case for the keys and told myself to stay away from the GTA ;)

One of the problems is they use kids that are no older than 16 ,17, so they get a slap on the wrist. Laws need to get tougher, mostly for ages below 18. Commit a crime pay the time.

Always thought the Juvenile Reform Act was for kids who did something dumb and with some help they would not do it again. Mistake as a kid would not impact the rest of their lives.

However what we are seeing here is not in the same category. Violence, guns, no qualms about hurting or killing people and they get away with it because of a sympathetic political system. These thugs are being recruited based on their age and lack of real punishment. You only need to know where the cars are shipping to figure out where the problem lies. No idea how Trump gets hauled in on this, not a clue.
Ya, I agree with you. There has to be a balance. It is not black and white.
Trump should never be brought up. It might insight a riot! ;)

Not nearly as effective or good as the Apple thing.
Could you buy a fast charging, cheap, android burner phone, with decent battery life, log into it as your Google self, enable location, stash it in the car somewhere when you're done driving for the day, and use Google "findmyphone"? There's probably a techie reason it wouldn't work, but I just ate several spicey fajitas, and my brain is currently concentrating on the potential damage to my digestive tract, and unable to multi-task to do some theoretical telecoms technical analysis and trouble shooting. If I pass some gas any time soon, I may be back with an update.
