What is your opinion at putting your newer car in a car show? I used to attend many shows but with some very unique 60's & 70's customized muscle cars. I have seen newer, mostly stock Corvettes, Camaro's, Mustangs and Mopars at some shows and actually first saw the C7 at a show in Airdrie. It was new to the market then and attracted a lot of attention of course. I don't really go to shows to see new, fairly stock cars. I'm sure they would get their fair share of attention and detractors of course (you can find them anywhere). On another note, I am trying to be Mr courteous when driving the Vette to dispel the stereotype (right or wrong) that we Corvette drivers are "aggressive" for the lack of a better term. I do find it hard to stay under the posted speed limit though!

Hi.

I have thought about this as well. Just to gauge the reaction, how about starting with a local car club show and shine one evening?

There is a huge, annual car festival in St. Albert this week, Rock'n August. There is a category for "Future Classics" .... lots of new cars and trucks are entered every year. There is a local Corvette dealer that is a regular in this event. :wrong:

Cheers!

I've been doing car shows for over 40 years. I would not put something fairly new in a show, and certainly don't like to pay to view a new car in a indoor show. Outdoor show & shines usually have something for everyone. So if you wanna look at a new Challenger then stop and check it out. Me, I just walk by all that newer stuff as it don't interest me at all. But overall, people like to look at the customs and classics , not new cars , those they can go to the dealer lot anytime and see the new and used.

I like the idea of a separate section if you are going to have newer cars in a show. That way if people are not interested they can skip that section. I go to see the classics myself but the younger generation seem to like newer cars.

Consider this thread high-jacked!

Cathy and I will try to attend the Friday evening cruise, show and shine and maybe, just maybe the sock-hop later on.

Saturday looks like a really good day to walk the market then continue over to the car show. Now THAT is a really big day! With the market being about two kilometers long then walk though 750 + cars .... you better wear good walking shoes! If the weather is nice I'd expect about 15,000 people walking through downtown St. Albert. That 15,000 number is just my W.A.G.

:irish: If your going to Rock'n August and your time is limited make the hearses your priority. What a hoot!

Cheers and keep an eye out for my 2019 convertible Friday .... BTW, I will not be wearing my fezz so I will blend in ....

PS. I will not get home until about 5:00 PM from Cold Lake.

okkkk...Now that we are back on track, I agree with everyone...At car shows I do look at Corvettes, new and old, but typically, I am looking more at the classics. Most of us are likely reliving a time when we owned some of those cars....and wish we still had them now... Show and Shines are completely different though as anything from the classics, to newer models, ricers, bikes, what have you are there in abundance. Separate sections at car shows would work.IMO... I would be more apt to take my newer model if I figured there would be more than four like me, and people could choose which sections to browse through.
Now...On to the stereotype of aggressive Corvette drivers... To be perfectly honest, in my exposure, the classics and the Corvettes tend to be the more subdued drivers.
And lastly Dan, and perhaps contradictory, I also have difficulty with posted speed limits but that's not aggression, that's just driving a car that is designed for and feels GREAT at those speeds.

Nailed it! 90 kms an hour in a Corvette on a Bluebird day? I think not.

I prefer the A&W type meets if my car is going to be viewed. All shapes, makes and colours at these things and people are really more interested in seeing and learning about what you have as you are about their cars. A much more relaxed and fun atmosphere in my opinion.
Show cars are just that... and guys are serious about it. They put a ton of effort into the cars based on some pretty specific criteria which lends to some stress and dissatisfaction if things don’t fly well. Frankly it’s amazing the details these guys are down to with the cars. Admirable for sure.
But the fun is in the little meets or loose show and shines. If your willing to risk a bit of ice cream splattered on the car it’s pretty cool dropping a little guy into the seat who is all ga ga over your car. Kind of makes both his day and yours.
Based on how many Hot Wheels some characters here give out every year at these things... I don’t think I’m alone in this one. 👍

I have to Agree with Michael on the “car show” and newer model cars. They have to be pretty epic to grab my interest. However some truly are so I do enjoy seeing them there too.

Love seeing new cars at the shows....don’t want to see them, walk right by. Yes I can go the dealers lots but what’s better than seeing them all in one place. Can’t even believe something like this bugs someone......everyone has different tastes.

So we checked out Rock'n August on Saturday afternoon. FYI, Cathy and I walked around all the Corvettes as usual. I explained why the 62 is my personal favourite. When it came to the C7's, I found we compared all the different colour combos, trim levels, bolt-ons, etc. and talked about what we liked. So yeah, showing a new Corvette definitely has attraction for us, being Corvette fans.

..... I walk past new Mustangs, Challengers and Camaros etc. .... I was a teen in the 70's, I lived the original cars when they were "unique"....

I personally, don't see the point in putting a "new" car in a show.

Show and shine is Ok by me, but not a "proper" car show.

I get that people are proud of their new cars, but I'm a gearhead from waaaay back and new cars are just......well, new cars. I don't see much special about them because all it takes is a strong bank account to get into one. To me, a car show is to show off how you've modified or restored a classic, or maybe a new model that has been radically altered. But there's a caveat on that one too: it must have been wrenched on by the owner. Not something they dropped off at a specialist shop and wrote out a cheque. I'm not saying you can't get a nice car that way, I just don't

If I want to see new cars, I go to the trade shows where the dealers bring their models to the indoor expo. A side bonus is that because they're trying to sell you a car, there's usually models outside int eh parking lot that you can test drive. That's far more awesome than having to walk by a 2019 Mustang that someone has waxed, put tire dressing on and that you don't dare touch for fear of an owner loosing thier biscuit on you for smudging it.

Actually, I'd be hard pressed to even bring my 88 to a car show, unless I was leaving it locked up in the parking lot......

Why not see New (cars) Corvettes in Car Shows?
Quite frankly they are not there for those who don't want to see them
but no big deal when people just walk by.
They just might be there for the Corvette Hot Wheels handout that just
might seed the young kid who will grow to buy the Corvette from my Estate.
If I didn't show up to one recently, I would not have been there for a newly
retired man who came up to me for a chat and eventually bought his first (used C6) Corvette.
I am now going on his first cruise in Kananaskis in a few days.
It's Corvette Brotherhood.

... and in my case perhaps seeing add-ons before thinking about and doing it myself ...
(which I certainly would not like doing at a place with nothing but New/Used Car Salespeople around)

This is huge! I have made decisions (both yes and no) based on this, nothing better than seeing something already installed on someone else's car.

I personally don’t want to see some 1970 pos that some guy thinks he did an amazing job restoring.....isn’t that what make our world great, everyone has choices....my god, walk right by if they bother you that much.....

Detroit has a big car show the third weekend of August every year. Supposed to be something for everyone. I've never been but a friend goes every year and says the street is lined with hundreds of cars and the hotels sell out quite early.
