car insurance

good to not get nailed like back in the day. if memory serves, i used to get dinged with 25% on my cars, only my 340 demon was immune. they seemed to go by the name of the car more than anything. even my 318 daily driver 71 charger got hit too !!

Here in B.C. we have provincial car insurance. My C5 is $700 for 6 months of driving and $160 for 6 months full coverage for storage. My 2005 Honda civic is $1,275 for year round driving. And the 2005 Ranger is about $1,200 for year round usage.

I believe rates are now based on location, your age, driving record and history of accidents/safety performance with each particular car. I don't believe that there's a surcharge for my performance cars: both the 'vette and the SHO.

(at least with the companies I have dealt with).

C.

this is correct. and to elaborate driving record relating to both your ticket history and accident/claims history. those are your biggest factors affecting car insurance prices. Also you can toss in annual mileage and commute to work.

There are no performance surcharges (for stock vehicles, modified vehicles are a different story) however some companies may be more weary of high performance vehicles, not for the performance part but because high performance vehicles usually cost a pretty penny and which company really wants to pay out $250,000 for a totaled Lambo for example lol.

Also, i get this a lot so i thought i might mention it. The colour of your vehicle or the transmission (manual vs auto) makes no difference in the rates.

My 64 is insured all year long with an agreed value at $71,190 tax in for $432 a year.

forty years ago the insurance companies played a big part in killing muscle cars. you can see a similar situation today with snowmobiles over 600cc. get into the over 800cc models and even getting insurance is difficult.

In '68 I had a Ram Air Firebird and paid $396 for a year. In '69 I bought the COPO Chevelle and the first thing the guy asked was the size of the engine. The cost was more still. I checked with another agent. "What model is it?" "It is a Malibu." "V8?" "Yes." "That will be $264 a year." "Thank you." By the time insurance really hit these cars, I was 25 and married so slipped by the big premiums. Between emissions turning them into dogs and insurance, there really wasn't much point in buying a musclecar after 1970. We had been spoiled with the COPO and LS6 stuff.

I pay $69.00 per month. Full coverage. I got a ticket a couple of years ago for 15 k over. Didn't effect my rate. (first ticket since 1986).
When I take it off the road for the winter my rate drops to $11.00 p/m.

I have been with State Farm for 20 plus years, All vehicles, House, jewelry, you name it insured with them. Also same agent for the entire period.

At these prices I never consider shopping around.:canada:

Insurance companies aren't made aware of your tickets. They usually do one check before they set up your policy and then a check every few years afterwards if you stay with the same company.

Considering most companies have hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of policies a year with multiple drivers on policies, there is no way to check everyone's driver's license everytime (to my knowledge it hasn't been automated yet and costs money to order the report) so they usually check every few years.

There is a good chance the rates weren't affected because they didn't even know about it. Then after 3 years from the date of conviction, the ticket is removed from your records. Judging by your driving history and loyalty with the company, I doubt they order your reports more than once every 3-5 years so it's entirely possible that they missed it all together. High Five!
