I agree it's NOT a first car for "my son who has yet to get his driver's licence". I sold my Infiniti G37X (far less HP and performance) and one of the hopeful buyers was a father looking to do the same thing for his son. I ended up selling it for less money to an older and more experienced driver. I couldn't agree this was a good "first vehicle" and the father just didn't get my concerns. It all goes to show that having money doesn't equate to having common safety sense...

I know I know; there are those who will chide me for losing money on the sale of a used car. But being a father myself, I sleep better at night after making those decisions.

I used to drive a motorcycle for years and have those same concerns: anyone with money can purchase a 1,000+ cc "crotch rocket" that does 300 km/hour, as their first bike. I wish Alberta and other Provinces would introduce a graduated licencing program where people who want to drive more powerful motorcycles have to qualify again for the higher horse power.

Here is NB if you take your bike lience on a 650cc or less that's all you can drive. If you want to drive a 1000cc bike you ha e to take your lience on a bike over 650 cc.

Some people have more money than brains, at least that's my opinion. The father that is buying the C8 for his sons first car will feel awful bad if his son gets hurt drive a car with that much HP and no experience driving. I have been driving for roughly 32 years and still scare the s**t out of myself with the vette somtimes lol

I agree 100%. I've had a lot of corvettes and a GT500 and I have scared the you know what out of myself many times. My current car: last week on highway - A guy in a PU truck on my ass; so, I slowly hit the accelerator - 190 in a heart beat!! If his son gets badly injured or killed - man, it will be a heavy burden/guilt to bare!! Plain stupid!!!

i agree with you for everything, but a mid engine car is very different more stability, my last car was a porsche very stable in corner, i rent a ferrari 458 and a C7 Z06 in vegas last year at speed vegas and nothing is comparable because the ferrari is a mid engine car, on the straight line the Z06 is a best but in the corner you have to drive like a grandfather because you will loose the car, with the ferrari this is an unbelievable experience my wife never see that kind of smile i had that day, the course is 1.5 miles with 12 curves, on the straight line i run 135 mph at 7 speed push the full brake downshift to the third gear start the corner full throttle and in the middle of the S shift to fourth gear with full throttle you will never had this experienced with a front engine car

my friend sold is porsche cayman S for a 911 after sold is 911 for a C7 grand sport e said to me that e like everything in is C7 but its not the handling of the porsche, i think the C8 will be like porsche and Ferrari that why im waiting for this car and the price in unbelivable compare to porsche and Ferrari, but when i read and watch video on the C8 some experience driver tell its not comparable to Porsche on track

Half the price of a well equipped Porsche 911. We shall see when the test comparisons come out. I'd love a F458 Spyder - can afford one; but, my wife would kill me. She nixed my C8 on me. The 911 is getting so big - basically it is a GT car - nice thing is get the 4 put snows on it and it would handle great in the snow. I still would not buy either of my sons a C8 and they are 30 & 36: my eldest has a Audi 4IS with the 3.0L Sc engine - has a wife and child - nice car!!

that why im waiting for the C8 to have a really nice car, fun riding it, we have no place to track here so i dont mind if the car is not the hype of the 458, but i will be more than ok with the C8, in vegas that was a dream to drive the 458 spider but this is not affordable for me and i dont want a car of that price in my garage 8 month a year

Hey, it would be a shame to have a Ferrari sitting that long. Where I live there are a lot of Ferrari's: they have a meet every year; other than that, you hardly ever see them. After 3 years there is hardly any miles on them - what a shame. We can drive here from March to October at least - probably November. Had my Vette out beginning of March. The C8 is an awesome car. I ordered the convertible until, like I said, my wife went crazy on me with all kinds of reasons I could not buy it - nothing to do with affording it - go figure?? I still might buy a 2021 vert and take my punishment - LOL. Post some pics when you get your C8!!

haha i have the same problem with my wife, she tell me that i dont need that kind of car because the road is bad here we have snow in october to april, dont have time to ride she find o lot complaint about it, but i dont have a four wheeler no bike no skidoo that the only thing i want ! my house is fully paid and i have the money in hand so i dont have to borrow it, so she dont have any good excuse not accepting it ! she like to travel we travel twice a year so both dream will be accomplish for both of us ! right now i have 5 deposit for the C8 one place im next to order, the other place in second, third place im 8, fourth place im 9, and fifth place im 18, so propably i will have one someday

Does each dealer know you have deposits at four other dealerships? Just curious.

Call me easily aggravated these days but the fact a non licensed 16 year old has a C8 waiting for him when a bunch of old guys who have been working for many decades are spending their evenings trying to figure out how to get a C8 built and delivered irks me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"You're easily aggravated."

Not the kids fault his old man has the scratch to buy him a car. We all knew guys who got awesome cars (Corvettes included) from their fathers when we were young... unlike the POS we managed to ascertain and scrounge to keep gas in the tank and tires on it. My daughter got a new(er) car from me because I wanted her to have more than I did. Ok not a high perf Corvette.
I know a guy in Fort St John who went out and bought a brand new Corvette when his son was born. Had it hauled to his garage and covered it for the kid when he turned 16. Actually that would be this year... wonder how that worked out.
At any rate, I'm pretty sure most real fathers would be gauging the attitude and risks before handing over the car. Kids are different today than the holy terrors that we were. Well maybe thats just me...

Interesting topic. Nice distraction
