C8 Z06 Insurance Cost

Just got my renewal notice from TD and my rate went from $1308 to $ 1635 or a 22% increase. That's for my 2024 Stingray and a 2008 Tundra . No claims in over 20 years . Clean driving record , no infractions, not even a parking ticket.
That seems like a rural rate. It's actually very good for two vehicles for a year. Your rate increase would be a blend of the loss experience the company has suffered and now you have to pay your share. Each province has to agree with yearly rate increases so you can search for information on that filed rate increase on car insurance in the NWT.

Given the very rude increase in my property insurance that just arrived I'm not really complaining. It has doubled from 2 years ago. I have full coverage on the C8 but it's parked for 6 months. I do drive my truck year round though. So compared to a lot of quotes I've seen it's pretty reasonable I would say .

Insurance companies are not doing full suspensions anymore, now they use what is here an endorsement called OPCF16 which is a partial suspension so they can charge more. Make sure your getting credit for the six month suspension on the C8 and not paying for full coverage all year.

So for the past 12 years I have paid insurance like everyone else and didn't think too much about it until I started questioning how much I am paying vs friends and what I see posted on threads like this.

Short story...I grew up in Alberta and received my drivers license at 16. Lived in Alberta until 2005 when I then moved to Dubai and lived there until 2013 when I returned to Canada (Toronto). Because my Alberta drivers license had long expired, I was required to take a drivers exam upon return to Toronto as Ontario won't recognize the Dubai license. So imagine being a car guy I had a 911 sitting here and needed my father-in-law to drive me to my road test...LOL.

Then came insurance but fortunately or so I thought, the Ontario Ministry decided to accept both my Alberta and my Dubai drivers experience which dropped my insurance premiums a bunch so I never thought more about it. Was insured with TD, had bundle after bundle, University discount etc....

Then came the Z06.

Called around for insurance after my current provider CAA said that even with my squeeky clean record and being 49 years old that my insurance would be stupid...just stupid expensive. Like over $500/month! 6k annually because in the Ontario system they have me as beginning to drive in 2005! That was my Dubai timeframe.....what about Alberta!?

Low and behold this disastrous Ontario Government Registry never recorded my Alberta driving experience. Therefore, I have been paying higher than normal insurance premiums for the past 12 years. FFS!

I go through the process last month to get a letter from the Alberta Government stating that I had indeed started driving at 16. However, this POS provincial registry will not accept it because my Alberta drivers license had expired in 2006 and because I obtained my Ontario license in 2013 that they cannot account for it at all.

But....you'll accept that I drove in Dubai from 2005 to 2013 and put that into your system????

Anyway my current insurers love the Alberta Registry letter and thankfully have accepted it and my premiums for three cars in total will reduce by $6k!!!

Welcome back to Woke Canada . Just wait until the squeaky few get their way . No one over 70 ever gets a license again because of a number .

Good information Hal, that will be useful for Todd as his increase seems to indicate the immobilizer upcharge.
Update. I guess CAA didn't take into the account of the fact that I had the TAG. I guess they didn't see the prove of the installation and therefore increase my rate to include the theft surcharge. So I sent in my invoice today to update my file. Will see what happen in 30 days with the updated profile.

Now as for the TAG system, there seems to be 2 options or so it seems? My TAG from the dealership came with a separate fob to disarm the system. My latest TAG doesn't include the extra fob. And according to the TAG online, there is no interaction between the oem and TAG. It is an independent security system. May be so for the lastest one but who knows why I got a separate fob for my SR.
