Local dealer is telling me that if I order now I likely won't get the car until 2023 model?
Is this for real or does it depend on the dealer?

It depends on the dealer. I'd try a few. Brian Cullen in St. Catherine's is a large one.
However, I think you are looking at 1 year. So that would maybe be a 2023, but most likely a 2022

When I was looking for an allocation July 2019 I tried my local dealer. If I was on his list I'd still be waiting as he got 6 allocations for 2020 and I would have been 43 on his list. With Cullen I started at 83, but likely got to about 40 by February of 2020. Dealers lose about 20 to 30% for one reason or another and the strike helped me. Like I said, some dealers never get allocations and some get very few. Some never get customers wanting one because they go to large dealers etc. You just never know. Call around and demand to know how man are on their list and how many allocations they expect.
Or how many they received 2017 through 2019 which will give you an indication as to how many they will receive.

Hey, local windsor boy here too.
Last year I got the same answer from our local dealers. A close friend is the service manager at one dealer, they got 1 2020! I appreciated their honesty, ended up ordering from WN in June hopefully June/July delivery of this year.

I wonder how large their list must be by now... it must be in the 100's? I think I was 71 when I put my deposit down mid-December, can't imagine I've moved much with the allocations Chevy has been giving out...
I pulled my deposit there in Jan when a bunch of my customers delayed their orders due to the shutdown and I got cold feet about spending the money on a C8. Businuees picked back up, so I just put another deposit down again last week and I am #65 on their list. They are very nice to deal with - Shaun and Julian.

Unless your 2021 order was put in some time ago, 2021 is complete. As for 2022, if your order is not in yet, you have less than 50% for 2022. The good side of it,is the models get better as each year goes by. Cost??

One good thing the dealer mentioned was that it will very likely be eligable for employee discount. Still mulling it over.

I put my deposit in. I'm 25 on the list . They are only allotted 10 per year. With cancellations maybe end of 2022 run or early 2023. Lot's of time to save...

I admire your patience. ;)
I'd say a 2022 will come to you. Spring next year would be nice for you.

Winnipeg here, I put in an order Oct 2019 with $5,000 deposit. Was about 12th on dealer list and apparently 3rd now. Was told order status is "preferenced" but no expected delivery date yet. Maybe picked wrong dealer??

Preferenced is a seldom used code. It doesn't sit there for long. It's good though. It means GM will build it.

Event Code Explanations:
  • 1000 – Order On Hold at Dealership
  • 1100 – Order Placed at Dealership
  • 2000 – Order Accepted by Chevrolet
  • 2050 – Order Changed
  • 2500 – Order Preferenced (or “Picked Up” or “Imaged”)
  • 3000 – Order Accepted by Production Control
  • 3100 – Order Available to be Sequenced
  • 3300 – Order Scheduled for Production
  • 3400 – Order Broadcast (Internal Plant Order Produced)
  • 3800 – Vehicle Produced
  • 4000 – Vehicle Available to Ship
  • 4B00 – Bayed
  • 4150 – Vehicle Invoiced
  • 4200 – Vehicle Shipped
  • 4300 – Intermediate Delivery
  • 4800 – Rail Ramp Unload
  • 5000 – Vehicle at Dealer
  • 6000 – Vehicle delivered to customer

Wow. $5000. They only wanted $500 here. Hope you get it soon.

All Winnipeg dealers required $5,000, I checked a few myself. My guess is that with limited allocations they wanted only very serious buyers. I ordered a 3LT Z51 in Elkhart Lake Blue. It's for my wife as I have a 2016 AMG GTS that I just can't part with. I really love the C8's though!!
