Buyers Beware - 25% tariff on imported classic cars

Just read about the same guy on a CBC article, but something doesn't quite add up.
The gentleman is 77 years of age, which means he was born is 1948. The article claims he owned a similar model (68 charger)when he was 17, which would be 1965 or 1966.
Maybe just an honest mistake, I was born in the 50's and still think I'm 35.

Very sad to see enthusiasts getting caught in the crosshairs. I hope the classics and modding community will survive and remain resilient. Most of us have longterm plans for our cars and none of us look forward to suffer to find and source parts in the future.

What worries me the most is GM already struggling to commit to 10 years to make OEM parts. Several parts for C7s already got discontinued after 6-7 years mark. And with what's going on, there will be even more discontinuations now.

At this pace in the future, we'll all need to start investing in some next gen 3D printing tech and these forums will become hubs for parts blueprints, with people crafting their own aftermarket parts.

I honestly did not believe that having and showing compassion for an elderly "car guy' who obviously has, possibly, a few good years to enjoy his dream car would elicit such a negative reaction. As I stated, its "just this mans opinion". DW, I hope you have an excellent day.
Nothing wrong feeling sorry for his bad luck regardless of age. The media loves a sad story it seems but rarely follows up. I read that the issue has been partly resolved by the additional Tariff being paused one month from March 3rd to April 2nd. So he is able to bring the car in by just paying the normal federal and Manitoba taxes.
You all will remember the show "The Rest of the Story", and this situation reminded me of a Corvette groups kindness. One of the members was on his way home from a club cruise and his transmission went leaving him only 1st and 2nd gear. The car limped home without issue but the member had struggled to get the used Corvette to become part of the group. Out of kindness the membership started an internal fund and collected approx $5000 to cover the cost of the repair. When I heard what happened I suggested a fund to help out and donated $250 to the cause. The group just wanted to do something that would make a difference to help out. I believe the impact was very big and I was proud that the Corvette community could help out someone who also suffered bad luck.
I hope Mr. Fletcher in Manitoba can now enjoy his dream car for the rest of his life and never suffers a setback of any magnitude ever again.
