You all know from my intro thread that my car is half a country away from me at the moment.

Well today I finally jump on a plane to see it for the first time in person. then it's a 3 day trip home, what are the chances the next three days will feel only half as long as the last three days waiting to go?

wanted to start a new thread to kind of document the trip, because I know how most of you are a little OCD about the pictures, and because I wanted to separate it from my intro.

stay tuned!

p.s. just to tide you over I've included a pic or 2 of SS

Hey Marty ....
I know that feeling Marty, and it isn't that bad .... Yeah Right !!!!
I have also jump on a plane to The States, pickup my new Z06 ....
And what isn't exciting about driving your toy to it's new home ...
You get to experience the hours and miles of pure driving pleasure ...
Just remember to enjoy this time, drive safe, and happy motoring ...

Marty, you have been here since November 2016 and already there are rules broken. The photography section clearly prohibits any display of $hit houses, that rule has been violated in the second picture. Nice looking truck however.

Wish you well on your trip, hopefully the weather gods will cooperate and give you sunny skies heading home. Enjoy the car and I look forward to reading about the adventure. Best of luck with the car.

Travel safe.

Looking forward to hearing about the trip and seeing the pictures! And if you get the Corvette soon, that means you'll have it in time for the Ponoka meet! Woo! Anyway, post up the dates of the trip and we should see how many members you can meet up with along the way!

The SS looks great btw! Thanks for posting the pics. That should tide us animals over for a bit. :D

update:
good news and bad news, it'll be an up and down kinda post.
flights were delayed, got to Hamilton a bit later than expected, but my friend was there waiting. got to his place, looked over the car, went to start it.... nothing
dead battery, couldn't even hear the beast until morning. set up the trickle charger and went to bed.
early this am. fired up the vette, what a sweet sweet sound after such a looooong wait! really sounds great.
had some breakfast and headed to DaSilva, had a nice drive along some of the smaller roads, kinda getting used to the car, rides good, sounds better, and pulls HARD.
about 3-4 blocks from Mannys' shop I think, lets check the brakes, so I stopped up pretty short, {they work well}. but this caused a big puff of white smoke. what the???
pull into DaSilva yard introduce myself to Manny, and we go look at the car.....
-bad news. belt is only half on the crank pulley, pulley is pushed up against the steering rack. the brake test caused oil to be pushed past the seal behind the pulley. tried to just retighten the bolt enough to get me home....no luck, bolt is too far gone. so the steering rack gets dropped and a new bolt needed. not a quick fix.
some positives to take away from all this crap luck so far though.
-Manny has a new bolt and can fix it.... tomorrow!!!
-of all the places I could have had a problem it was at the shop of one of the best Corvette guys in the country.
-He even lent us a vehicle to get around to the hotel etc. while we wait.
-price will be better than what I could get it fixed for in GP. even if I could get it home.

so we spend an extra night in a hotel, no big deal. And I find out first hand that you all are so right about DaSilva Motorsports, They're going out of their way to help us out.

Congrats on getting your car Marty.
You couldn't have picked a better place to have trouble

Enjoy the drive home.

I can see the problem from your pictures. Clearly a bigger hammer is needed.

Well if there were issues it happened at the right time. Manny will look after you, he has already proven that, and you will be on your way home with a bit more security.

Best of luck, it will all work out.

Looking forward to more adventures of heading west.

Marty..
Happy to hear you got your Vette...
Glad you were near Manny's to have the car looked at.
Safe drive home.
Great times ahead for you.

Graham

Congrats Marty... Shame about the troubles but sounds like it's relatively minor and you've got it under control and on the right path.... Keep checking in with us....

so today, not as much progress as hoped.
once we got on the freeway, 400 north, (and finally got out of the 80k-60k zones,) I found a little shimmy shake at 110 and up. decided to find a shop in Barrie for a wheel balance. Then figured it would also benefit for a wheel alignment as the front were showing some uneven wear and feathering on the inside edge. that took a couple hours. getting back onto the freeway took another couple hours, backed up traffic for miles. glad it is just a mild cam in the car, creeping forward a couple feet at a time. Oi.

parry sound for dinner, and fuel.

Marty..
Good idea to get a balance and alignment ...that will make your trip much better.
Did they find anything out of balance or alignment?
Enjoy the ride.

Great pics Marty!

Parry Sound is growing! The last time I was through that town they barely had a Canadian Tire, let alone a Rexall! lol.

I'm glad to see you are staying ahead of issues with the alignment and such, and hope you don't have any more problems at least until you get home, because service between there and Winnipeg is going to be slim.

Keep the pictures coming, and keep it silver side up! We're shoveling snow in Alberta right now, but it should be okay by the time you get here!

Good grief Marty!

First of all shame on all my CCF brothers on the website who don't tell you that we need to get together.

I'm just north of you in Fairview!!

I envy you your Corvette trip. Mine was from Vancouver to Grimshaw but I did it in a day. I'm jealous of yours too since I also lived in Thunder Bay as a child and haven't been back since about 1979 when we were moving from Montreal. I have such happy memories of my childhood spent in TB.

OK we're going to have to get together for a cruise when when you get home though! I farm and spring harvest (bleh!) and seeding are coming up but perhaps sometime after that??

It is great to have another CCF member so close to me!!

Safe trip, no more problems other than your new perma-grin with your wonderful car!

I'm actually on my way into GP today but think I'm going to take the Mustang instead. I took the Z06 out last night for a rootbeer run though........I sure can't wait for the weather to get spring-like.

When do you expect to be back in town with any luck??

Cheers,

Garry

Great updates Marty! The car looks great and I'm glad Manny was able to help you out. As stated by others, hopefully it'll just be smooth sailing the rest of the way. I'm looking forward to following along.

Have a look at the CCF map Garry.... You actually have several members within spitting distance... Except your marker still shows you just south of the North Pole.... lol....

Wow I never even knew the forum had such a membership/mapping function - good job Riley!

Now, the only thing that we need to add is to indicate people who have been active like say within the past year............that would then pretty well eliminate all the pins in northern Alberta! Even Marty did not show up in GP that I could see...............

The drive to GP this morning was nice but the trip home with the roof down again was super, a bit cold but after the spring so far it was great. I think I discovered a new form of pleasure too, at least until the sun gets warmer. I wore short and when I got back to Fairview I had to make two stops before I went home. Sitting on black leather seats in the sun when it is maybe +7 or +8, wow did that feel wonderful on my legs!!

Cheers,

Garry

Zoom in on the map pins Garry.... GP has 3 pins. Marty being one of them You're pin is still in Peace River... One in Dawson...One in Pouce coupe. One in Slave...Then if you click on the individual members pin, it will bring up the members information, including the last time he/she was active on the forum.... This is high tech stuff Nik has going on here.... lol....
