I don't get it. Do people use bats on mailboxes?

I believe it's for the snow plow.
Went to Sugarloaf in Maine for skiing one March and in that area they get so much snow that they have their Mail boxes on chains so they can raise them so they don't get buried by the plow. They had so much snow that year that they had to remove some towards the top of the gondola lift so the gondola car could keep moving. Unbelievable amount.
Put one of these up at the end of your driveway.... And buy a tow truck. You'd get rich towing cars that left the road at night to avoid the deer...
You may have to explain that one. Putin would get it... lol...

I acquired an antique Russian one a few years back at an estate sale. Not many knew what is was or more importantly what it was worth. Came from Sergiev Posad, outside of Moscow from the early 1900's. Had 12 dolls and the smallest was the size of my thumb nail.
