Lada...Lada junk. My brother in law had one, it backfired on every shift, had no heat, and was basically a POS.
You will see a fair number of them in Jamaica for some reason. I guess maybe you’d have to be high before you’d want to drive one .:popping:

Made by Fiat I believe or at least a Fiat made in Russia by Fiat design.

Pure junk. Not much more substance than a beer can, lol. I have been in a few and was glad to get out of them. Hit something and they would fold up like a house of cards .

Funny story... No Lada involved... My brother in law had a K-car... More junk. He's not really mechanically minded... actually not at all.. First thing that happened was the drivers outside door handle broke off.. No problem. Got three more ways in... Within a year all three broke off...No problem. He'll just leave the breezy window open and reach in and open the drivers door that way... Oops... One winter he forgot that he had closed the breezy window cause he was cold and locked himself out... Now what... No problem...He'll just use a screwdriver and pry the breezy window open....Oops... Breezy window doesn't appreciate being pried and shatters.... no problem... Just stuff a couch pillow in the hole.... Finally he decided it was time to junk the K car as the trunk was just a big rusty hole by then too....

He's doing C8 oil changes for GM these days....
lol... (that was the only BS in this story... )

Just a pretend 70's Fiat in Russian clothing, but don't knock it too much, they have built over 2 million of this POJ (piece of junk)......LOL

Here's the serious answer - ".........by 1997, Lada was forced to withdraw from most Western markets due to tightening emission and safety legislation".

There could be a gas cap theft ring operating after all.
Hard to believe anyone would let this ( expensive) classic end up in this condition.
Looks like the last time it was driven was in the winter.
