Battery DEAD DEAD DEAD

Small update on my AGM battery, for anyone interested.

I put my car away Nov 1, and took it out of storage yesterday April. 18. I simply disconnected the battery and let it sit for 6 months in storage (heated). No tender or anything …. It just sat disconnected.

Yesterday when I got the car home, I put my 3 amp Battery Tender on it and it started charging. 30 minutes later, complete!

The AGM held a charge for 6 months with near zero depletion. Impressive by my standards.
Did you happen to check the voltage before connecting the Battery Tender ?

Thanks for the update David.

For anyone that are looking to save some weight as well. Here is an nice option for a Lithium that fits in our cars. H6/Group 48. :

A 12.8V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery generally provides between 900 and 1500 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA), making it suitable for engine starting. While traditional lead-acid batteries of this size have lower CCA, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries with high-performance BMS offer superior starting

Just back from 2 weeks’ holidays, went to take the car for groceries… and it was stone dead. Nothing.

Before leaving I covered it up in the garage, and made the conscious decision not to plug in the battery tender. Figured two weeks would be fine (I normally plug in the tender if it sits more than a couple of days).

Well… add in my LED steering wheel still plugged into the OBDII (with heat option), the smartTOP module, the car’s own parasitic draw, and the fact the battery was pushing ~4 years old… and I was doomed. On top of that, I’ve been at car shows nearly every weekend, constantly cycling the roof up and down showing people how slick it is - probably not doing the battery any favors.

Tried throwing the 5-amp Battery Tender on it, but it just errored out and told me the battery was toast.

Instead of wasting time, I grabbed a replacement: H6 AGM, 760 CCA, 4-year replacement warranty battery. Sticker was 08/25, so fresh off the line - exactly how you want them. (Cue the AGM vs flooded flaming, but I’ll take the better tech.)

Moral of the story: batteries don’t last forever. Plug them in, take care of them, and don’t over-abuse them like I did (roof up/down 20x a day 😅).
I plugged mine in every night. Easy to do with the OEM battery tender. I left it a few weeks : battery dead and had to trickle charge to life. Asked dealer about it and he said that with all the electronics working 24/7 it drains a lot of power - so, just plug it in - no problems from then on.
