Is there something wrong? The concern is when parked at night with the engine running i can’t switch to just park lights. It’s a manual transmission. I thought that with the park brake applied you should be able to turn on just the park lights but it’s either full headlights or no lights at all. If I shut the engine off then the park lights work just fine. I also had a manual transmission 2003 Pontiac Grand Am that functioned the same way.
I don’t think this is an issue for automatic transmission vehicles. Thoughts?

I think that's just how it is, my car is the same, you can only use the parking light in the day. If you switch it to "off" with the parking brake set the headlights go off, but as soon as you switch it to "parking light" in the dark the headlights come on.

Yeah that’s exactly it! Unfortunately.
I understand the safety of having headlights on when they should be. But there are times when we want to make the vehicle a little more visible without unnecessarily having full headlights on. Thanks for the reply
