are prices for new C8s going up?

hello everyone, maybe some of you know more about this as I don't follow politics very closely:

So if tariffs for Canadian made parts such as C8's DCT that is made in St. Catharines, ON are now 25% due to US tariffs is more expansive heading to Bowling Green, and the C8 rolling off the assembly line heading for Canadian dealerships is also 25% more expansive due to Canadian counter-tariffs mean that the Canadian made DCT would end up costing 56.25% more once it gets back to Canada installed in the new C8?

So Canadian C8 prices would increase by more than 25% on new C8s crossing the boarder

If I understand it correctly, everyone that still wants a C8 should hurry up and buy one that is "in county" now

This was more or less already asked in the General Corvette Discussion section. I responded with this, which really doesn't answer anyone's question on this topic.

Little early for anyone, including governments, to actually speculate on a dollar figure for multiple thousands of items that will either be directly or indirectly affected. There are many intricacies that will apply to those items. As an example Canada supplies car parts to the US. What is the value of those parts as Canada's counter tariffs will certainly apply. Another factor will be manufacturers and what portion of the tariffs will they eat, just to continue selling their goods at a price people can still afford. Basically it's a wait and see world out there right now.

Not to make this into an political thread in the C8 section. So the lastest is 25% tariff on metals on top of his regular tariff on all Canadian Imports. So what does this mean? 50% net total on metals? 🙄
Might as well not sell to them and take the loses and free trade with someone else. Make sure they get the max hurt as well on what they will inflict on us.
How much more will the msrp be for your 2026 C8 Stingray? Any guesses?

Tariffs are back on the menu, boys. Can’t believe half of America elected this 🤡.
Neither can the half of Americans with working brains. Sadly, a lot of his voters didn't really believe he would do what he said. They're learning the hard way. I'm willing to bet virtually all of GM's execs voted for him, and now they're going to pay the price, along with the rest of us.

All the US people that supported him heard was his voter catch phrase.... "Make America Great Again". Sad that 170 million fell for that as they have unknowingly sold out to a party of billionaires that are going to run your country the way they want with no regard for the average citizen. Trump is nothing but a pawn in the game. He can't even remember what he said one day to the next. Sad what the US has and is continuing to become. Recovery will be a long time coming, if at all.

I bet alot of the auto workers voted for him as well despite what the head of their union stand. We all will pay a harsh price of that along with his worshippers, sadly.

It appears obvious that if the Tariffs continue that all North American auto production will simply halt completely. The just in time production is so complicated . Parts unavailability will impact the entire system immediately. The manufacturers are not going to purchase raw materials and parts that cross the borders multiple times and instantly make the production unprofitable. Only a very small percentage of potential buyers would be insane enough to actually pay 10-25% above the current ridiculous prices.

Look for the auto industry to start shutting down in 7 days. As Andrew said with auto parts crossing the boarder on average 8 times during the production process, it makes buying a car from another country impossible the way the system is set up. Canada has not announced a 25% tariff on US cars yet due to the fact it shouldn't come to that point before plants close and everything grinds to a halt. In North America 1 in 7 jobs is directly related to the auto industry. The question is how long will it take for political pressure to resolve this is the thing that remains?

the 8-speed DCT in the Stingray (RPO M1L) comes from GM’s St. Catharines plant in Ontario. However, despite all Corvette variants using 8-speed DCT automatic transmissions with similar basic architecture, they all have unique RPO codes (MLH for E-Ray, M1M for Z06, M1K for ZR1). The St. Catharines plant only builds transmissions for the Stingray and not for the other Corvette variants.

So Denis, imagine a 25% tariff for some parts to come to St. Catharines, another 25% for the transmission to be sent to Bowling Green, and another 25% when a Corvette comes back across the boarder into Canada. This is why the current system will implode in a matter of days.

Trump is a business bully. He has always operated this way.

Mark my words, this will blow up in his (the Trump) administrations face, and the only people that are currently on side with this are the same mentality followers that stormed the Capitol building or companies owners/businesses in the USA that the tariffs will aid. A lot of Americans still don't understand that this will cost them all financially.
The administration will have to back off on some tariffs and keep others.

I understand that what he is trying to do/imply is force industry back into the continental USA and this is the only way that he can garner attention to his cause. We should have a similar mandate in Canada, but remember that we have to pay the price for keeping business manufacturing in North America with higher costs on everything that is currently coming from China and Mexico.

I am sure if every part for our beloved Corvette's where manufactured in North America (which is currently impossible) we could then comment on how expensive the car really is.

My 0.02¢ Canadian or 0.0139¢ American depending on which side of the border you are looking from.

THIS is a huge issue. The reason manufacturers come to Canada is the dollar. It's much cheaper to build things in Canada. LaboUr is cheaper as are local products when paying with U.S. funds. The same goes for Mexico. CHeaper laboUr! Forcing manufacturing in the U.S. will drive pricing up for everyone.
