Anyone Else Fascinated By Old Locomotives?

Drag race . Guy on the right is burning a bit rich . I would be a bit concerned by the verging tracks more though.

Apparently in the US you can get some massive fines for doing that.
It is supposedly illegal here as well but I've yet to hear of any fines. My diesel ford is mildly chipped and will emit a smaller amount of smoke than most and only if I punch it hard. I chipped it for the additional HP and fuel savings as I gained about 3 mpg in normal driving. I'm not the guy who smokes out the Prius at stoplights...

Rolling coal, or the act of purposefully releasing large amounts of black smoke from a modified diesel engine, is not legal in the province of Alberta. The Government of Alberta has strict regulations surrounding the emission of pollutants from vehicles, and it is illegal to modify a vehicle in such a way that would cause it to emit more pollutants than it was designed to emit. Rolling coal has been known to create significant air pollution, and therefore it is not allowed.

My neighbour has an old tractor that stinks to high heaven and he runs it at idle. He NEVER runs the engine any higher and always drives at a crawl whenever he uses it, which is too often!
Edit: .. and there is nothing worse than following a stinky diesel on a hot day with the top off!

Pump out truck perhaps? We have septic pump out in parts of the city due to the prohibitive cost of under road pipes due to all of the rock. There are a few spots where they have to park on the street while pumping which is too narrow to pass them so it’s a damn good thing vehicles have a reverse gear, lol . Nasty on a hot calm day.

The "Honey Wagon"? OK, I take it back, There is nothing worse than a leaky "Honey Wagon"! We had one guy who after pumping us out drag his "drooling" hose over our lawn. I had to dig a hole to get rid of the stench! LOL

Wow . Also all timber. Couldn’t be built today even if you could find the timbers . There are few Tradesmen left that would even know where to start. Unfortunately.

I'm a tradesman...you start at the bottom and work up from there  timber is redily avalable in whatever size you require, shouldn't take more than a couple weeks to stick up  Painting it on the other hand would be extra.

I pity the poor structural engineer that designed it. Must have completed about a thousand calculations.... by hand, although he likely had a slide rule and a large room full of draftsmen.
