I am on Bell Sympatico. Lucky me I have been bombarded with scammers trying to get me to renew my subscription to Norton, Nnorton, Nortton, Nortn and hundred other variations of a product I don't even have. This morning was classic, got one from a "Blocked" sender for guess what? Norton.

Anybody else suffering from this mess?

I get very few of these. I use Avast for my antivirus. Not sure if they help with phishing emails or not though. I do know a crackerjack tech guy though that might have some ideas.... Hi name is ...... wait a second.... It will come to me..... Oh yeah.... Nik ;)

Gmail is absolutely the worst for spam and phishing - they say they've got filters, but some of it always finds it's way into my spam folder, and rarely to my inbox.
If they know it's spam why not just delete it, is my q to them. I've probably got hundreds of diy gmail spam filters created to send it directly to spam He!!, but some always gets by. It's annoying.

gmail spam filter is usually pretty good for me. I get very few spam emails and very few spams in my spam folder but occasionally they will filter out an email that is not spam. That is why there is a folder. If you are waiting for an email from someone new you are dealing with and it doesn't come, the spam folder is the first place to look. If they just deleted them, they are gone, never to be seen again.

If Gmail sends something to Spam, there must be a good reason.
If anyone sends me an email that gets sent directly to my Spam folder by Gmail, or picked off by one of my diy spam filters, and gets sent to Trash, it probably belongs there.
I do browse the Spam/Trash folders sometimes, if something I'm expecting goes missing, as you suggest.
Or, if there aren't any more soap operas or game shows on TV to watch.
None of my other email addys seem to be bothered by spam, just Gmail.

Is that why you never answer me? ;)

It depends on what you use an email address for. My wife has an email account that she uses every time she orders from Amazon or downloads something that requires an email addy to activate, etc. She gets pounded with spam as well. Having a garbage email addy you don't care about for those purposes is smart. And a VPN that hides your IP address also helps. JMO

That's what my Gmail addy is for. I use it for stuff that might be a bit dodgy in terms of security requirments and exposure. I also have a Ymail throw away, same purpose. Hotmail/Outlook I actually use for some stuff that's sort of in between in terms of data security requirements. Of those 3 platforms, I think Microsoft is probably the most secure, of an insecure bunch.
I also have non-browser based email clients, that cover the most secure requirements.
Redundancy is a good thing, as is backing up everything regularly, and keeping your personal information to yourself on everything else, as much as possible.
As for social media, I use them, but I'm a ghost as far as they're concerned, on the mainstream ones, like X, Meta, Instagram, et al.
31 years in I/T teaches you a little bit about data security, and how to manage and maintain it, and what kinds of things can break it.

Yup, that's why I have 5 or 6 addresses.
One for banking
One for personal stuff
One for personal stuff that's easy to spell for people
One for CCF
One for P... (you know)
One cuz it's cool and you never know when you'll need it.
another one that's cool that I thought of after I created one that is cool.

Gee Whiz! You guys are lucky. Only n-Or-Ton
I get those as well as McAffee along with renewal subscription notices for Netflix and CanPost notices that my package couldn't be delivered and t0 have it redirected I need to pay $1.15. Along with various other scams. Unfortunately I don't get any from porn sites although I do get the odd call that my windows computer has a problem (which I didn't notice) and a very rare one for charitable donations.
Other ones want to track my packages probably so they can come and retrieve them for me - lol.
They are all over the place.
Second bike I had was a Commando Murry. The girl didn't come with it and NO, I didn't buy it because that was the way I dressed. lol

And they all have the same password ....
