Administration Fee

I was charged $350 admin and nothing for gas. Last year (2019) I looked at the Supra at the local dealer and was told it would be MSRP but, and here’s the kicker, I would have to buy the best extended warranty they sell at over $8000! Well, it’s no wonder that 2 of the 3 Supras are still sitting there a year and a half later.

WTF! What a shady POS way to do business.

I have purchased 4 vehicles (new) in the past 3 years and every dealer (4) have all "tried" to charge for a full tank of fuel with no success. Greed in my opinion as they all tried to make out that they had done me such a great favour.

There were no extra charges like admin., gas, warranty, etc. on my first new Vette forty-five years ago.
It all came out of the agreed purchase price, which was never MSRP.
The extras are just to make the selling price look good.
Kinda like they do now for airline tickets.

My C8 is at stage 2000. I have signed a contract with my dealer at MSRP and no more. No extra charge for A/C taxe, gas or admin fee. I got some free extra (oil, filter, alignment).
I have been on his waiting list for about 18 months and only gave a deposit when he got a firm allocation for my car.
BTW, the local Mercedes dealer has these extra fee like administration fee ($445) and paint sealer ($499). First think that I did when I got the car was to wax it so I am not sure what that paint sealer is. Audi dealer does not play that game. They have no extra charge and you can negociate a better price than the MSRP.

Admin fee is as much of a nuisance as is the a/c tax & tire tax & also the extended warranty scare-tactics to me.
When in the actual "purchasing process", all I care about is the final out-of-pocket cost without additional nickel & diming after the fact.
I always try to just negotiate the all-in price at the point-of-sale with a Dealer and tell them they can break it out
on the bill-of-sale any way they want to.
I am always skeptical right from the get-go of Dealers who will not display the Factory pricing label in/on a New Vehicle too.
This way hoping not to get the extra money grab after I sign - always declining extra warranty
and never ever risking a purchase involving an initial year release.
Never anything against any one else's choice for jumping in right away ...
I am just patient and observant before doing it myself in a few years.

I have purchased several new vehicles from GM dealers in Oshawa ON over the past few years and they have never charged me an administration fee. Those admin fees are for the most part just a way to pad profit margins. Maybe needed for low profit margin sales on economy cars but certainly not on high profit margin Corvette sales sold at MSRP. It might be good to publish which dealers are charging those high admin fees so forum members are aware of that.
