A Sucker Punch From Your Neighbour/Friend? (US/Canada Trade War)

Problem is that the a-hole will ignore any ruling by appealing or simply ignoring the ruling period. And apparently they have other mechanisms to apply tariffs as well. We are fornicated no matter what. I hope you had a nice Christmas season at least . Best to you and yours!
I don't think we are f!@#ed. The orange head only won by about 175000 votes. There has to be enough normal Americans that, if they just get out and vote, they will defeat the fool. If they don't its gonna be rough. Elbows up!

We all are hoping that's the case. But this protectionism/expansionism of the USA may be around long after Trump is gone. All his minions with this ideology is still around pulling the strings on the next puppet. We cannot rely on their voters. Minds/views can be easy munipilated.

I agree to a point but Trump is dangerous and hopefully the next president will not be as volatile with intent on phucking over the rest of the world. Canada has the ability to crush the US economically but it would also put Canada in a severe economic slump for the first year and I'm guessing a majority of our industry and population would be in pretty dire straits for that year as well. But it would open the US eyes that they totally depend on us. If Canada totally ceased exports of softwood lumber, potash and other fertilizer ingredients, rare minerals, aluminum and steel, oil and gas, electricity, pork and beef, milk and whatever else, It would totally cripple the US. Some of those items they could access from overseas but between the extra cost, shipping, and the fact that most of the other countries would likely want Trump to take it up the p00p chute as well, the US would be crippled in less than a year. Unfortunately 50% of the US population doesn't deserve that but on the smae token, 99% of our population doesn't deserve what we are seeing right now.
Now, unfortunately, if we were to cease the supply of items to the US, the dictator Trump would then certainly declare war on Canada and we'd be phucked anyway. So at the end of the day, "elbows up" sounds good as an election promise but that's as far as our government has gone with it. Carney has his elbows duct taped to his sides and if it weren't for most of the general population having our elbows up and boycotting everything American that they possibly can, and refusing to support the US with travel to their country, nothing else we are doing really makes enough of the difference required to put a quick end to the orange turd's reign of stupidity. JMO

Did you see the interview with Carney. I forget which station had it but it was interesting. He's trying to diversify with other countries and remove the provincial boundaries. Both of which will take time. We already tried to push Turdump and he responded by not talking to us at all. Turdump is a child with a huge ego and it does make more sense to play into his ego rather than but against it.

I agree. Diversification with other countries is great but won't replace enough exports or imports to support our economy in either of our lifetimes. Trump will be long dead and some semblance of normal trade with the US will resume, but there will come a time that if another Trump ever hits the stage, more and more diversification elsewhere will certainly soften the blow we are feeling now.

Way back when the US started to dump on Canada over softwood lumber my opinion was - just stop selling to them. For sure don't lower the price. Would it hurt. Yes, but it would show that their end game is not so well thought out.
Now on oil, Canada needs that west-east pipeline. For all of QC's bs on the environment, the majority of oil is imported here is mainly coming through the US. QC does have a refinery in Levis that is ship supplied but it can't supply the whole province.
Big pipeline coming up from Maine for Montreal refinery as well being fed partially by Enbridge line five which also serves ON a significant portion of it's feedstock. The US would have a hard time to cut line 5 off as it also supplies quite a few northern states. However, a northern route would strengthen our energy independence as it would take away leverage from the US.
As to all the rest, don't lower any prices to mitigate the US tariffs. It is just playing in to their game. It is the US consumer that is paying the "tariff" tax. They are just starting to realize it now. After all, DJT did say he liked the uneducated!

Regardless of what happens in the November midterms one thing to be concerned about in MHO is who will take over the reigns of the Republican party after Trump. Could you imagine Don junior or just as bad , Vance ? That is of course depending on if the Democrats can pull off a win without it resulting in Civil War......

Can't ignore the fact that there are another 3 years of this administration to contend with. But as you point out there is the hope that sufficient numbers come to their senses to put an end to the madness down there . Fingers crossed.

Even if the Dems make Turdump a lame duck, Turdump still has those "executive orders" which he wields like swords.

My bet is tat Trump will be either dead or incapacitated before 3 years. One can only hope. But yes. His next in line will likely be as bad or worse. We may have to wait the entire 4 years for a fresh face and demeaner.

Watch what you wish for. That would mean Vance takes over.......

No guarantees of course, but he likely wouldn't have the balls or backing to do the crap that Trump is doing. He's not a billionaire, though he is a millionaire.

Off topic on this thread but just general politic.
99% of us doesn't realize and appreciate the complexity of running a country, province, city.
All voters doesn't have the patienct for slow change but sometime you just can't flip the switch it will be done the next day. Many instances where you have to unwind the complex network from the prior regimes. Now just referencing for a city. There are loyalists to the prior leader that you have to navigate around and implement your new proceedures/ideas. Because they are not elected but under contract appointed previously, you cannot just fire them without financial penalties. A good leader would need to find a more competent person to take over that role and that takes time in some cases.
Many of these officials makes alot more $$ than a publicly elected officials. So the workers are making more $ than the boss you can say.
