When I first start the car,.. odometer and speed appear normal ,.. when I release park brake the gauge lcd goes all scrambled,.. I apply the brake again its normal,.. if I turn the lights on it goes crazy again,.. thinking its a ground problem,.. my first vette and I just bought it ,... Lt1 6 speed standard ,... thanks for any help !

Wow that is a strange one.

First I'd check for codes. Write them down as displayed for future reference.
The hardest part is shorting pins #4 and #12 at the ALDL. Use half a small paperclip.
Here is the procedure:

Second disconnect the battery for a few minutes so see if it resets the system.

Third, the grounding could be the issue, as you say. A quick google will show those points.

If none of that sheds any light then call Manny for advice. He's an electrical, as well as a mechanical, whizz.
