Anyone encounter really notchy shifting 1 st to 2nd on their Z's? On a short shift there's times I can't even get it in second.

yeah unless you get the revs up and at 30 km/h say its notchy at best. not liking it at all. on the list for the 800km check up

That's the CAGS. You get a visual on the dash / speedo. Shift from 1st to 2nd above 28kph or so, and it's fine. rpms over 3200 or so, it's fine, any less,, and it forces you from 1st to 4th.
Search here, or google, then order a CAGS eliminator. Less than $20.

Yes the warning is very clear not to force the car into 2nd when the CAGS in engaged. Be wary of that.
I have not installed the ship shift elimination yet as I found its easy to just throttle through it without a problem. I’m just used to going past the upper end of the CAGS when shifting 1-2. Otherwise for sure I’d have it eliminated.

fuel savings though?? if I'm going down say whyte ave and shift 1st to second and it puts me to 4th that's way too tall ar that slow speed and is dumb to go 1st to 4th to 2nd or have to rev it in first to get to second. Dumb idea gm has there

Strangely enough, I don't have the skip shift problem..... Drove manual tranny all my life so maybe it's the way I drive. My C6 had the granny skip shift too. The eliminater came with the car but I never found a need to install it. Still have it kicking round somewhere. That being said, and probably the reason why, but at 28kph I'm still in first gear anyway...

yeah just need to run 1st a little longer....no biggie. actually even read about it in the manual tonight the 1st to 4th.....good to know.

This feature was put in to help keep the vette out of the “gas guzzler tax” area. Don’t think I need 28k/hr to go to 2nd but if I felt the resistance I just went to 3rd. My c6 had a more intrusive setup but not enough to break up a factory setup.

The skip shift felt like it was more intrusive on my C6z as well. I hardly ever notice it on the 2 C7Zs I’ve had.
