1974 Heat Gauge

Hi, I have a 1974 L48.

The heat gauge always goes to a hair below the red and stays there. Car doesn't overheat.

What is the normal operating temperature the gauge should show?
Does anyone know why the needle goes so high?

Hi Gary, it depends on the thermastat thats in there . Factory stat is 195 ,with that your normal temps should be around 200-205 .

Does your gauge go back to zero when the engine is cool? Is there anything blocking your radiator? Coolant is full? Water pump is pumping?

Gauge goes back to 0. new radiator. Everything else is fine.
