Hello,
Who here on CCF is registered with Zoom?
Looking for a Live Vid-chat (40 min max)
with up to 100 participants at a time ?
May perhaps be an alternative for coping
with the loss of our Alberta Ponoka Meet.
We may also be able to chat Live in a group
with members who are all over the World too.

This definitely is not to detract from CCF
posting and discussion ... Just a virtual Add-on
to bridge-the-gap of the miles that are between
us - and perhaps similar to our Meet-in-the-Middle in 2018.

Cheers, Spence

here's the download link if you wanna check it out
it's FREE (the magic word that get's everyone's attention)
You can "zoom" from a phone or a laptop/desktop.
Perhaps pretty cool while sitting beside your Corvette.
Virtual Show & Shine ...

I have heard reports of this service getting "bombed" while in use. Some very nasty things have happed to groups while using this service. There are supposed to be ways to prevent it but I'd be reluctant to use the service.

Zoom was banned about a month ago for the organization I work for due to privacy violations and information being leaked... so I will definitely not be installing this anytime zoom lol

Ya ... people only hear and retain the bad s**t ...
the program is actually in it's infancy ...
continual tweaking for it's high demand/growth.

Rather than just kill this idea, how about a hint
of suggestive constructiveness .. just saying

I am actually seeing Zoom working real well
when organized well by people who have I.T. ability.
People who actually reach out and help others
to set up and join in with them.
It's actually saving the grade-school
education system ... I see it first hand
being used for religious efforts too.
Been using it to keep in touch with
multiple Family members.

If it doesn't work, we can just not
continue with it ... find another way ...
no big deal ... but geez

... this is really for people who are interested &
totally one's choice to even join in ... nobody
will be forcing anything potentially enjoyable. JMO

LOL no point getting defensive - I actually work in IT and that's why I posted what I did.
There is plenty of other programs around like skype or Webex (although zoom does handle
group meetings very well); it just doesn't have a great security reputation.

... it's a continually developing idea and I see that zoom is as well ...
I am not suggesting it for guarded corvette owner secrets for crying out loud.
LOL responses pretty much set a tone for reaction ... should be well know in I.T.
(I was defensive on my question for a virtual meet up suggestion taken as a LOL joke)
but please ... don't join in ... it's really no problem at all

A virtual group meet is what this was that I would have attempted to host.
Welcome people in and perhaps be able to keep it free and free of zoom bombing.

Zoom is constantly maturing as a result of its widespread use (it's not for military secrets though) ...

Announced on April 8, a recent Zoom change is an option called “Security
that will allow hosts to quickly respond to issues such as Zoom bombing
by locking the meeting or removing participants.
It will also restrict those taking part in the meeting from sharing their screens or renaming themselves.

Deconstructiveness can quickly take the wind from a sail ...

it's common ... but I can drop the idea as it ay likely involve a bit of
time to help people set up (if needed) ... really too bad if it be ...

@Nik @Rruuff Day @Black 03 Z06

Sorry folks ...

Hey don't squash the whole idea... the overall idea is a great one!
One could do a lot with group meetings in an environment like this.
My only flag was 'zoom' in this whole topic that's all.
If you want to test out a free Webex account or something else I'd be happy to
help you test it.
Cheers

Really sorry folks ...
I’m in.

... I think I will set up a small group for
testing and expanding it from there ... perhaps not
publicly broadcasting events - for security -
and perhaps letting it grow with interested participants
and referrals ...

I have actually suggested Zoom because of assumed easy
user setup/access and hopefully less support/troubleshooting.
We won't need features beyond the video chit-chat which
will hopefully be less demanding on the various devices being
used by participants. Some of the early negativity has apparently
been resolved ... my concern is going to a platform with higher
operating system demand that will affect screen & audio response.
These type of drawbacks will lose user interest pretty quick.

Nice thing is that's it's free and perhaps worthy of an attempt

If I'm correct, zoom security would be pretty much having someone
unwanted having access to participate ... and I am almost certain
that the host of the meeting has the controls to allow access
as well as kick 'em out ...

I used it for a conference call last week. No issues. I don't think anyone is going to divulge personal or security sensitive information while on zoom. Seems to be okay for informal chit chat, provided no exposure to getting hacked.

Might be also good for
putting a face to name too ...
Regardless of how
Covid isolation has
Changed us ... 😂

Not trying to undermine the real-deal
but as we cannot meet in Ponoka
on May 9th, perhaps it can be
in short 30-40 mins sessions
in a virtual way ... that's my aim
to help with an option

I'm in for a video conference. I can't get ZOOM on the chromebook , but maybe on my other computer.
While on the committee for WCCC Bowling Green, we had many meetings on skype for business. What ever works for the masses and I'm in.
Maybe @ddgermann will show us his hidden gem in paradise.

I'm in, despite the negative BS above this is a really good idea. Zoom, skype, WhatsApp... any platform is ok for me. I use this stuff all the time in my business and personal coms.

Set it up and announce the date/time Spence. I will be there man.

I'm in!! @rockitman there is an android app for Zoom so try it out. @SN-III and @Heiko , I haven't used Zoom yet but wasn't the biggest issue that people were doing "open" meetings? Hackers or anyone just has to search for the meetings that are open then "crash the party" so to speak. If it's set up with a password that is PM'd to participants then when you log in you are placed in a "waiting room" that the organizer cna check and then let you into the meeting. If he doesn't know you, you don't get in!!

Worth a try, when are you planning it Spence!!!!!

Another one we can try is Discord. It's primarily used by gamers but we used it with the kids on the weekend to play Jackpot.tv. Was a blast as its an interactive game board that uses your phones to draw and answer questions. Pretty cool actually. No I'm not the tech guy, it was the kids that set it up!

I believe that if the "host" puts a password for connection there is a lot less likelihood of getting hacked.
In other words, not an open forum.
I do use ZOOM every then and now

Well it is in the cloud so I guess that is closer to our maker. As long as he is up there and not down below.

If the timing is right I'll be there. Do we need to PM you our email addresses Spence to keep it away from the hackers (Probably Ford or Dodge guys - lol)

I send DD an exercise routine. Maybe he can show us how it is working out for him LOL
