We now know the official USA gas guzzler tax for 2023 Z06. I have never had to pay a gas guzzler tax in Canada, is this USA only or does this apply to Canada?

I think ours is the carbon tax that we pay at the pump and Trudeau is rolling out a gas guzzler next year that will really hit the truck and SUV market between $1000 and $4000

Has anyone ever paid a gas guzzler tax when purchasing a car in Canada?
In Canada it's the Green Levy tax:
  • At least 13, but less than 14 litres per 100 km: $1,000
  • At least 14, but less than 15 litres per 100 km: $2,000
  • At least 15, but less than 16 litres per 100 km: $3,000
  • 16 or more litres per 100 km: $4,000
For reference my 22 GT500 was $2000 at 14mpg combined, and the non z06 is stating 17.5-18.5mpg which puts it in the 13-13.5L/100km range aka $1000

So then we will have to pay $1000 Green Levy tax, I guess we will know when the 1st one gets delivered

Pay that every year in QC when I register the car.
QC runs it by engine displacement (
6.2$312.00
)plus the luxury tax (1% of the vehicle's value exceeding $40,000) which diminishes yearly as the car valuation lowers or exceeds 7 years since purchase.

Couple that in with the proposed Fed tax and it is getting expensive.
Wonder if they will ever tax peddle vehicles and if there would be an exemption for amputees? LOL

I'm curious about this Green Levy tax because I was not aware it existed. There was no Green Levy tax charged on my 2022 C8 in Ontario, only HST + the $100 a/c tax
