Hi guys, looking to put the new carpeting in this weekend, when I noticed that there’s this connector in the trunk. Might sound dumb, but can anyone tell me what this connecting block is for? I’ve never seen it before. I also can’t seem to figure out how to remove the connections on both sides

Any help at all would be great! Thanks

What year is the car? Looks like the seat belt interlock module that was mandated starting in 1974 and ran into the 1975 model year. It was discontinued mid 1975. The system was to disable the starter until the seat belts were buckled. There was also an orange colored relay/override switch on the engine side of the firewall on the right side above the heater core box.
