window tint

No photo but I am thinking of buying the 3M colour stable for my C7 and doing it myself. The 35% looks right. Anyone done the project? Difficulty. Rear and side windows to be done.

Did not do it myself but bought the car with 35% tint. I found it fantastic. Little cooler interior, easy to still see at night....... the police disagreed....

35% on Pewter.

I ordered the 35% 3M colour stable. About $100 for a 40 x 90 inch roll. I'm surprised the cops would stop you with 35%. The driver can be seen???

Can see the driver but their issue is that the motor vehicle act states that you can't have a sun screening film on the side windows of the vehicle. So ANY tint gets targeted. The funny thing is the act states nothing about front or rear side windows so technically every 4 door vehicle with tint on the back side windows is in violation as well.

I've been looking for tinted glass side windows. No one makes them yet.

35% is very safe in Ontario. One needs to understand though that, in bright sunlight, even 35% looks like limo shade.

I don't think the cops have time or are even interested in this stuff anymore.
Lots of bikes with straight pipes and ape hanger's.
My Vette is not quiet, had a thumbs up from one cop.:coolgleam:

All kinds of loud four bangers running around making all kinds of racket.

Speed, texting, erratic driving, impaired driving etc is what they are looking for.:nono:

Bill:seeya:

ps. V-8's don't make racket...just music!

A bit silly since almost every new car has tinted back and rear side windows, and the tint, I would say is about 35%. The front side windows are tinted on many newer vehicles but a lighter tint. Oh well. I'll deal with any violation issues should they arise.:D

And here it is: Ontario Motor Vehicle Act.

Colour coating obscuring interior
73(3) No person shall drive on a highway a motor vehicle on which the surface of the windshield or of any window to the direct left or right of the driver

I'm just going to chip in from a first responder's point of view to add a bit more information for thought. As cool as the tint looks, just remember that if a firefighter has to enter your car after an accident, we sometimes have to break a window when the doors won't open. The tint interferes with this and slows us down somewhat. I haven't seen it stop us yet but it has caused some frustration.

I agree 12 cents, however, with the C5 Corvette, the windows do not have frames surrounding them so it's pretty easy to pull them out so I would hope that wouldn't be too much of an issue with our cars.

I like how the Ontario Motor Vehicle act states "Substantially Obscuring" so it can be left up to the officer if they want to give a ticket or not. :D

Frames don't really make a whole lot of difference when it comes to taking the windows out. We use a tool to break the glass and the tinting film holds all the pieces of glass together on us. It doesn't stop us, but it is a PITA to deal with.

Getting mine done Monday, Pinnacle 30% or 40%. Not sure yet which one. I have to see them before I decide. Does $300 sound reasonable for all windows?

Tinted the 2 side windows and the rear in my vert for 140.00. This guy is extremely fussy and spent 2hrs on it. He has a laser cutter at home so the pieces fit perfect when he arrives.
I'm going to hold off on the photos for a week or so as I have also ordered a blackout kit for the entire rear of the car. I'll post some shots when I get her done.

My car comes back today with full XPel and windows tinted at 35%...Cost $250 for the windows but that was because of full XPel as well... will post. My advise...don't go anything past 35%; the windows already have a certain tint to them.

What brand did they use on the windows and how are the seams on the car?

NO SEAMS on the car...that was a large part of the reason I wanted full coverage. He wasnt sure about going around the dvr door mirrors but thought we might get lucky once he saw the precuts. I will provide the brand of the tint later when I pick it up and post picks. I do know he has put in a full 3 days on it though...not doubt about that as he has sent me updates and piks.
