Good morning!

You've heard me perhaps comment in the past about the poor encounters I've had with other Corvette owners. Well this recent one was the experience that I always hoped they would be.
I was leaving Peace River after a nice walk along the dike and as is my habit I drove to Main Street to take a cruise before heading home. Imagine my surprise (shock more so?) when after passing some parked trucks - a yellow Corvette! Now I've seen a yellow C4 around town before and although I only got a quick glace, this actually appeared to be a C6! So I went around the block, the car was still there, yep a C6 of some sort but there was no parking close by. I saw that the brake lights had come on so I figured that the car might be getting ready to leave.
So I drove about 2 blocks further and stopped where I could get a good view back down the street and waiting. Lo and behold, it starts coming up the street so I got out of my car and stood by the back and the car pulled up sides mine!
A driver opened the door and I said to him "We've got to be the two luckiest SOB's in Peace River today to have cars like this!".
So it turns out that the owners live about an hour south of Peace River - and they are farmers too (really I'm not making this up!). The car is a 2005 ( so must be a US car?) C6 Z51. There is a C6 R marking on the side but I wasn't aware of such a model and actually thought it referred to the version that was raced at Lemans. An automatic but no paddle shifters.
The owners bought the car in Calgary last year and this was the first time they were driving it this year. They live about 1 1/2 miles on a gravel road so he mornally keeps the car at his son's place who lives right on the pavement.
The car was modded by the previous owner, a Vortech V3 has been added and apparently it dyno'ed out in the 540 range.
They asked to see my engine compartment which I'm embarressed to say if filthy (Colin would pass out from shock!) but his is the real you hear about "clean enough you could eat off it" situation. Some really nice engine bay yellow colouring added and a nice set of mirrors on the underside of the hood which really made it look nice!
So we had a nice chat and then parted ways. I told him he should take his car autocrossing so next time there is an event I'll be letting him know and we can "represent" the marque there with two SC'ed C6's!!
It sure made my day let me tell you to find another individual with such good taste and to have such a fine moment of fellowship!
Cheers,
Garry

Great story Garry. You never know who you will meet up with. They have a very nice car.

Any smoke from the fires near your place?

Hey Garry! Wooo! Great Story. It does appear to have been a lot of love put into that car. HRE wheels are top of the line! Very nice. Would be nice to have them on the forum as they too appreciate the GS stripes! :D

As to an answer to your questions, 2005 can be a Canadian car. No paddle shifters in 2005 as that was the only year the C6 had the 4 speed automatic. The next year they moved to a 6 speed auto.

Good afternoon Riley,

Interesting info on the 2005 that I never knew. It was a nice looking car - odd that it was a slightly different shade of yellow too - was it repainted or did teh 2005 not have Velocity Yellow as an option I wonder?

Oh to be sure I told him about the website so I hope that he will join up and share his experiences. I may have to prod him on this. There is an autocross race on Saturday in Dawson Creek and I told him he should take his car there to really have fun with it and meet some other great car guys but I'm not sure if I'll be making it myself - but I ought to go for sure.

Yes, there was some real smoke hazy maybe two days ago it was, it smalled just like being around the campfire for a day but it blew through or shifted direction as it is just hot and windy here now without noticable smoke.

It is sort of exciting to have another, almost twin car, in the area and owned but a fellow grain farmer too - it was even funnier as we were both wearing yellow shirts as well.

We were even able to swap stories about how often the nose of the car bottoms out on the streets in Peace River (OFTEN!).

Now I have to think about cleaning the engine compartment on the Z06..............at least getting rid of the canola seed the mouse or squirrel decided to store around one of the coil pack covers..............

PS Riley - I like the ability to now add images without there being a limit to file size. Colin was never able to teach me how to shrink the image files to add them to postings with the old site.

Cheers,

Garry

On the up side Garry if you do something silly and the cops come you can just blame the other guy.:Nono1::Biggrin:

Great point! The detail differences between the two cars would I'm sure be lost at speed!!!

Good morning Bill,

It was nice to have a good encounter with a Corvette owner and with so much in common between us and being, for all purposes, local to me! I mean I see enough fo them around and it would be so nice to be able to get a group of owners together for something like a by-monthly cruise or something like that. The sports car club in Grand Prairie does that in the early spring, a 200 plus km road trip together and it sure looks like fun. I imagine how nice it would be on a weekend having 5 or 8 or 10 Corvettes travlling a route and stopping in all these small towns....................

Green Veets with yellow wheels, sure I'll keep a weather eye out for them!

Darn smoky haze is back again this morning! But only highs of 27 as we have two more rail cars to load...........

Cheers,

Garry

At last night's local cruise night at The Barn, a silver 2008 GS parked beside our car. Nice looking pair if I do say so myself. They were about my age and were thoroughly enjoying their car as much as we do ours. Over the past three years, we have developed a circle of Corvette owner friends. All good people. We are so fortunate in having so many cruise nights around here where we get to meet so many nice people. Have fun Garry. That's what it is all about.
The Mountain Man is organizing a lunch get together at his new house this coming week for a lunch get together and that is REALLY what it is all about. Josie awaits the crew. ;)

You're quite correct Keith. I hope perhaps in the future to find enough Corvette owners locally to be able to do a road cruise together. I was surprised on Saturday I think it was going to the grocery store and as I was turning in a C6 Z51, Atomic Orange, was leaving. I'm not sure if the car is local or not as this was the first time I'd seen it but maybe a new car to town?

And yes, as I hang my hairless (formery hairy) head in shame, I finally washed the engine comparment of the Z06 last week. It doesn't look like that other car but it sure does look a lot better and no excuse for that being the first time since I've owned the car that I did that job. Hopefully it doesn't take 3 years again to get around to doing that. It really sucks to be facing driving 3/4 of gravel to and from my home to the pavement and with it being as dry as it is now it is just powered dust most times so the car gets dusty everywhere.

I've even been thinking about printing up a short note about trying to get Corvette owners together with my email and to pop them onto windshields that I find and to see if that produces any bites. I mean I know in both Valleyview and Fairview they have car owners that get together at the local A & W............and we have an A & W in Grimshaw too!

Cheers,

Garry
