What is the purpose of connecting to Home wifi from C7?

I am new owner of 2017 C7 Stingray (my first corvette ever), been reading and learning about it for a while on YT, but playing with HMI found out I could connect it to my home wifi and it is connected now. But I cannot find it on the internet or the user manual what is the purpose of this WiFi connection? what is this used for?

Just to be clear I am not talking about the OnStar WiFi hot spot.

Any help or pointer is appreciated, search did not return anything useful on C7. C8 can receive updates, but on C7 no info.
 
Thank you, Android auto on C7 is limited to USB cable only (as far as I know) and it is working. Could be app downloads, I will try that.
 
I had a 2017 Grand Sport and found the On star Wi-Fi great for road trips at a very reasonable price. I was not aware I could connect to my home Wi-Fi and would not see the point of doing so.

lol . Don’t you want GM to have direct access to your home network… :rolleyes:
Allowing them 24/7 access to our vehicles is bad enough.
