What Do You Think Of The Mid Engine Corvette?

It's getting better. A vast improvement over than the last rendition I saw but I think the nose still rolls down a bit too quick... If they send me one to test, it might just grow on me..... Thanks for the picture Bucks

I really hope Chevrolet does not go down the mid-engine route. I like the front engine design. It works. It wins. It is a great looking car. It is an iconic design. And I suspect the price point for the mid-engine design will very likely put the Corvette out of reach for many of their customers, including me.

Hoping not de-rail your thread but I would like to see true all-wheel drive. That would safely add weeks to my driving season.

Edit: Also say good-bye to a functional trunk. That would be a deal-breaker for me.

True but I do not want a bug because...well there are too many reasons to list. I used my C6 for business and personal travel for a few years (~100,000 kilometers), clubs, laptop, luggage in the trunk with the top down. No problem. I have squeezed two sets of clubs in the trunk with two small soft bags and hit the road for a over-nighter. It is do-able.

Mid-engine has a ton of pros, yes it will likely up the price but I don't think GM will ever position a standard vette to compete with the 200k+ cars. They may certainly have their special edition Ford GT equivalents in that range but I can't see them moving away from mass-produced value for money sports cars into budget hypercar territory. They're not kitted out for this and the brand isn't strong enough to carry them at this point in time.

Agreed, still not a fan of the front end. The car has to be completely redesigned so it flows. I hope they don't try to use bits from the current C7 to force fit the C8.

That's a much better rendition of the latest mid engine car. I like it, but whether I like it or not doesn't matter too much as I doubt I'll ever be able to buy one. :(
However, I will enjoy seeing it destroy other cars on the track! :)

Dik... I wasn't recommending you to get a Bug..hahaha... although I did have one in high school and they are a cool vehicle.... (especially in the winter...)..
I was merely observing that maybe the mid-engine Vette will have a storage trunk in the front... Two sets of Golf clubs might be a stretch to fit though unless it's considerably bigger than my Bug was........ lol...

and Bucks.... I have seen many picture renditions of a new mid-engine Corvette ... some with C7 styling tail lights and some with round tail lights.... albeit the round ones were on the ugliest rear end I have seen yet..... As a previous C6 owner, I too have a connection to the round tail lights, but as a C7 owner now (and probably set myself up for a plethora of abuse), I would not trade off the long list of noteworthy improvements in my C7 for round tail lights.... lol...

This one looks like they glued a Caddy bumper on at the last minute...

To be honest, I much prefer this rear end (below) over the one above, even if it's C7 tail lightish! At least until I see the bumper...lol....

The C7 was, and is a windfall for GM, especially after the off and on sales success of the Corvette in years past. As Nik indicated, GM may produce a limited number of $ 400,000.00-compete-with-the-Ford-GT cars but they will not jeopardize moving too far away from that almighty cash flow and the 'appeals to and is attainable by many' sports car/borderline supercar. The C7 gave them that and I'm guessing the C7 body styling will be the new design starting place. But.... What the H do I know....?. :WillyNilly:

My feelings exactly Dik. Look at an Audi R8 and they are a day tripper at best. Nice car for sure but no room for suitcases for a trip. The present Corvettes has a 50-50 weight bias and that is just about perfect as is. Add all wheel drive to get the power to the ground would be a big plus. When you are spinning, you are losing and it doesn't matter how much horsepower you have under the hood, if you see tail lights at the end of the drag strip, you still lost. The car companies always have to come up with something new and different so a mid engine model wouldn't surprise me at all.

Front trunk? I shutter thinking the vette will now be used for the big grocery runs like Costco (oh the terror of the shopping cart parking lot). Would have to add GM accessories that would flip out as front fender protectors for the load and unload. That is unless the front hood would now just hinge at the firewall... but wait not a firewall now. The engine behind might make for a nice seat-back warmer. Oh the thought of this all is just part of a bad dream at the moment (but maybe just for me) .... please wake me up
This will be a GM legacy decision that would remain awesome no doubt!

I'll reserve judgement until I see it up close.
And what the price tag will say.
