What Brand Of Motor Oil Do You Use In Your Toy

Whatever I drained out of the lawn tractor last year. Run it through a coffee filter and good to go. :D

Not really, I use Mobil 1 5W - 30 and not sure why but I have always used GM filters. Man that is tiny filter.

Mobil 1

I use Mobil 1 and a GM filter changed out twice a year, last thing in the fall and mid summer. If the stores would stock the top grade Pennzoil I would probably switch to that. They always seem to stock the one grade lower. When I see how good my old 427 was after close to 200K miles with the oils of the day, I can't see what we use now having any problems at all. Yes, those oil filters are pretty puny. There is a longer version but I don't want one being the lowest point on the car. It wouldn't bother me to use the oil I drain from the Corvette and use it in the lawnmowers.

Mobile 1 5W30. I would switch to Penzoil Platinum but have lots of Mobile 1 still around.
K&N Filter.

Might want to be careful of blindly using Mobile 1 or any other brand that meets the new SM spec.

Phosphorous and zinc are the two main ingredients for wear additives in oil, but phosphorous is bad for catalytic converters, the EPA has mandated a reduction in the phosphorous and zinc levels in modern oils to help extend Catalytic converter life.

Mobil 1 USED to have approx 1200 ppm of zinc in their oil, but following the EPA mandate, the current SM spec has about 600 ppm of zinc. Which may work for modern motors designed for it, BUT any flat tappet, high valve spring motor will suffer higher wear rates on the cams and lifters.

If you choose to continue with Mobil 1, use the extended mileage version as it has higher zinc levels.

Amsoil produces a high zinc oil, that has approx 1300 ppm of zinc, specifically designed for older engines, ( I am NOT hawking Amsoil, independent testing by Mark Haibeck, the ZR-1 Specialist. ( Google his site.) did extensive testing and that was his conclusions.

Penzoil platinum ultra in the vette and platinum in all the others. I have been a synthetic oil user for over 30 years and made way over 300,000km whit most of my cars and trucks without any engine problems.

Everytime I see these oil threads it makes me laugh guys .

Ask yourself this ----When did you ever hear that an engine on anything went bad because of the brand of oil used .............answer never .

Makes no difference what brand you use .

seen it often with 2 strokes......but 2 stroke vettes are pretty rare.

I work in a garage since 1981 and own my shop until 1990. I have use all major oil company's over the years and as long as you oil from a major company or from a petrol company like Esso, Shell or any other big one, your fine. I do service and repair on police cars since 1988 and always put good quality oil and even with this kind of abuse, engine failure are very rare, not because they dont try

Manny,

Does that include the synthetic versus regular oil debate, or just on brand names?

Curious, as I go out of my way to go with synthetic in the Vette.

Thanks!

I use Synthetic in the company vehicles because the employees would never change the oil .We set it up as spring and fall ,oil change ,filters ,tire rotation etc etc .
I also feel that we get a slight boost in fuel mileage .

Never lost an engine in anything since the early 60's
