With the big election just over a week away, I was wondering if there are any strong opinions on our Canadian forum. I am no fan of politics, but this one has me watching with interest. I am hoping for a change in power, if for no other reason than to get rid of the walking ego that is Trump. From a party perspective, I see good and bad from both sides, but as far as a leader goes, I cannot stand that man. It used to be that a president was someone to look up to and for kids to possibly aspire to become, but this guy is nobody a kid should be looking to emulate. He is a complete joke to the rest of the world. I just don’t understand what his supporters see in him. If this type of sentiment was mentioned on the American forum, folks would get eaten alive by his followers.
Thoughts?

YES I do have an opinion as we own property in Arizona. Trump's personality leaves a lot to be desired but Biden will turn power over to socialists and the economy over to China. He will also try to kill the energy industry as Trudeau is doing in Canada. Look after your gasoline powered vehicles as both would like to make them extinct.

We specifically do not allow political threads even about other countries however given the timeline and potential for massive drama that may impact us directly I will let this one thread exist.

Please keep it civil, no personal attacks etc. Remember these are your Vette neighbours.

Ahhhhhhh..... politics... The never ending debate amongst the masses... There is a reason the forum shy's away from politics and Nik is truly generous allowing this thread. I expect some interesting discussion but to add to the above, respect the opinions that may surface here. We are slaves to the media so there are many things about the candidates and the US we are not privy to, both good and bad I would expect. And with that, I will voice my thoughts.

I respect Donald Trump for his financial prowess. I do believe he is a very smart man. Regardless of the stupid things he says. I have many friends in the US that agree with that. Trumps biggest problem is his ego and his mouth. From the beginning, my unheard advice would have been for him to have numerous advisors and writers to proof not only his speeches but also to ban him from unedited social media posts. I believe Bob is correct though. Trump, aside from his many faults, would outshine Biden in economic decisions.

Biden, on the other hand, scares me somewhat regarding the US economy and his views on oil and climate change. We saw the foreign ownership in the US escalate during the Obama tenure and my opinion is that would renew under Biden. His philosophy towards oil and gas and climate change, although reasonable in the long term, is not functional or conducive for massive overhaul in anything resembling the short term. It is indeed unfortunate that the damage to the climate had not been recognized and addressed long ago as the government choices now will dictate whether we maintain some semblance of lifestyle or revert back to a "Flintstones" existence.

One last thing on Biden, is his health. Putting aside his age, for what my opinion is worth, I noticed in both debates, his difficulty with words and corrections. Indeed, in his Sunday night appearance, his wife supposedly reminded him a few times that Trump was his opponent, not four more years of George that he needed to defeat. The presidency would certainly be hard enough without the possibility of dwindling mental faculty.

So Trump or Biden. I have no idea if I were able to vote, who would be my choice. Hopefully, if I were a US citizen, I would know considerably more about the candidates and be able to make a choice.

Who will win? I have no idea.

I don't see this ending well. Sorry.

Suspect your opinion of Trump largely rests with what American news station you watch. It is pretty much a given that all Canadian networks hate the man and will do whatever they have to to denigrate Donald Trump.

Trump is not the most polished speaker, says some dumb things but I believe his heart is in the right place.

Go Trump 2020.

Voters will have the opportunity to vote for whoever does the least amount of damage. I don't see a good ending either way. Very limited options but I would rather see Trump win since the US already has some idea of what he's about. The democrats mirror a socialist government, similar to what we're seeing in Canada with Trudeau.

Thanks ruffff

i am like trump, there I said it

good-byeeeeee

I`ve got 2 bets with 2 of my liberal friends for a swiss chalet chicken diner if Trump wins. Several times I asked them to double their bets but no response.
Duh make `Canada great again `. `Duh I forgot what I just wrote`.

... a good discussion ...

The situation super-fuelled by the current US Leader that is prevalent south of the 49th,
is being realized everywhere. Not unlike how NHL Hockey fan rivalry is at times, it has infiltrated our
own Canadian Corvette Forum and it's Generations - and I am not being an ostrich about it.
The issue being the "antagonistic method for divisiveness" among allies and colleagues.
I am not sure that even if an astroid heading toward Earth, it will bring it back together as some
will still say "well at least it's not going to strike on my side of the planet".
This is happening worldwide and all we can start with is our own home-front.
If I had a simple solution, I would hope the majority would agree but am losing faith more
by the day that the majority are satisfied with destruction. Although it does start with "leadership",
whether we use the Trump/Biden discussion as a template, or not,
... I know the truth of what is needed will not be instantly resolved next week.

... back to c-gen hibernation

Thanks for allowing this Nik and I sure do hope it doesn't get out of hand. I'll be watching the results on FOX but will check in on CNN occasionally and hope to see them EXPLODE as they did in the last election. :Cheers2: I wonder if it's true that Amazon will buy CNN after the election.

In the past, the Republican party was better for us north of the 49 and the Democrats punished us. Now it would seem to be that both are bad for us. The question is which is the least bad... There a lot of things DT does and a few things DT says (policy-wise) that I like but on to my second point.
A second point is that a leader should be something a country and can unite around (mostly). DT is the most divisive president in recent times IMO which makes him a poor president, although I do think he is one of the most clever politicians in recent times. Hard to say what Bi...bi...biden will be like
Either way, Canada will suffer after this election with JT as leader no matter which one becomes president.

We have enough of our own political problems in our country right now, I don't care what it going on with our neighbours to the South.

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
True a long time ago and DT shows it is still true today.
If someone doesn't bow to his wishes he knows what to do. Fire them. And get someone who will do what he wants and what he says. sounds like nepotism to me.
Funny that he can not bring himself to say that extremism is not welcome down there even when there are plots to kidnap and possibly kill a couple of (D) governors. Rather he blames them and then says it was "his" agency that protected them. No mention that it is wrong.
If the news is not to his liking then it is "fake" news.
His modus operendi is deny deny deny - attack, attack, attack
Doesn't like Fauci so he gets Atlas. Doesn't like Comey so he finally gets Barr.
He did say he would drain the swamp. Problem was he didn't say what would replace it. - his family
Several of the republicans are outright hypocrites. Just look to the SCOTUS nomination, I don't say that Barrett is not qualified. I just wonder how McConnell and Graham can say that Obama had no business nominating a new SCOTUS judge one year before the election but they can ram it through one week before the election.
CV-19 is another farce. DT said the US might get maybe 20 cases way back at the beginning. Now he wants everyone to believe he has saved lives because not so many will die. Slight contradiction. They are even saying now that the objective is not to control the virus but to get the vaccines out ASAP. And if it is not fast enough for them then they can change the guidelines at the CDC. As long as DT and his cronies keep power. Biggest laugh is when he says there are more cases because they are testing more. That is true you know and I agree with him on that. Thing is that there are also more cases, more hospitalizations, more deaths. And the solution?? Don't do so many tests so the optics are not so bad. Something like saying too many students are not passing their exams so the remedy is to not have exams. That way no one will fail. PLEASE tell me this is stupid.
If there is a change, lets hope that the vote is decisive. Otherwise I fear that DT will try to hold on to power with whatever means he can. Maybe that is why JT said that Canada has to be prepared for different scenarios without elaborating.
FOX news is DT's mouthpiece. Except when they call him out. Then he wants to know what is going on that FOX has changed.
Prefer PBS myself. At least they "seem" to be less biased and give background to what they document.

As my friend Mark Twain said "If you don't read newspapers you are uninformed. If you do read newspapers you are mis-informed" Guess the same can be said of television now-a-days

So power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Back to waxing the car before putting the cover on it.

Le Baron has covered it well. Someone said they thought DT was a great financier. Sorry, but Wrong. He is a crook. He has signed deals for many millions , when payment comes due, he cries its too much and makes a low ball offer, if the low ball is denied he says see you in court for the next 10 years, if you accept the low ball, he carves you a check for half.... and he has gotten away with it for far too long. He is the wrong person in every way. Lets hope the USA can resolve this problem with this election.

Got really ridiculous when DT said that "GOD" had visited the virus upon him so he could show that you can survive it. No mention that he got it in the first place or that he had eight doctors or more plus the staff to look after him. Wonder if everyone else will get the same treatment???
And then there is a CBC crew down there asking people about the campaigns of both DT and Biden without any lead in to the conversation. When you get some people saying that "GOD" had sent DT to take charge it gets worrisome. But DT did say he liked the uneducated back in 2016

Wish we could learn from all this BS and get back to running our own country for the benefit of the citizens.
Canadians are being polarized as well up here between the reds and blues. To a certain extent we are lucky we also have the orange and greens. At least they can show us other options , even if we do not like them.
How many of us vote for the representative that we think will best express our views in parliament? Rather it has come down to voting for the leader of the party even though we may not like the representative in our particular district. Hopefully some day we will be able to vote for the one we believe will best represent us rather than having to vote for the lesser of bad tasting choices. IMHO

Again. back to waxing the car. If this keeps up I have too much wax on there. LOL
