For anyone considering driving a lap (or several) on the Nurburgring Nordsleiff track (the old Formula 1 track that Jackie Stewart called the Green Hell), consider renting a track car from RSR (Ron Simons Racing). They are a top notch outfit with a wide range of cars available to use on the Nurburgring (they also operate at Spa in Belgium). Be aware - you cannot drive a regular rental car at the Ring, even on the Tourist days when the track is open to anybody paying the 35 euro per lap fee. Cars are checked at the starting point and if it is a rental you do not get on the track!
RSR has a wide range of cars from Renault Clios up to Porsche 911 GT3's. Lots of very fast cars. Last time I checked they did not yet have a Corvette, but they likely will when the C8 is more available in Europe. I was there several years ago with the Speed Secrets group that Ross Bentley (former Canadian Indy Car driver) has been taking there every year for the past few years, in partnership with RSR. It was definitely a bucket list experience.
The track itself is a challenge and not to be taken lightly. We spent a lot of time ahead of the visit learning the track using computer sim racing set ups. It was still tough to remember what was coming up, with a lot of blind corners, and a couple of crests where you can easily get 4 wheels off the ground unless you know what is coming. It is a very fast track and easy to get in trouble, and if you do it will be very expensive - no safety run-off areas like the modern tracks!!
Even better, take a lap with one of the Ring Taxis and a professional driver - I got a race-speed lap in one of the RSR 911 GT3's with one of the professional race driver coaches we had. Absolutely amazing.
